UPCOMING TOUR DATES WITH VIVA BROTHER
Family of the Year and tinyOGRE Entertainment are excited to announce the release of their new EP St. Croix, out September 27th. The EP will be released as an independent retail exclusive and will also be available via the band's website. The song "St. Croix" will be available for download as a digital single from digital retailers on the same date.
The release of St. Croix will give the world a first taste of Family of the Year's recent recording sessions with accomplished producer Wally Gagel (Eels, Norah Jones, Old 97s) and serve as a precursor to their full-length tinyOGRE debut coming out in early 2012. The band will take their new material on the road in the next months, kicking off with a Los Angeles show August 11th, followed by a run with Slough England's Viva Brother (formerly Brother). Family of the Year self-released their previous full-length and EP in the United States, where they have cultivated a healthy and steadily growing base of enthusiastic supporters through touring, fan outreach, and word-of-mouth. Critics have also positively received the band's work. Stereogum highlighted their debut EP Summer Girl, praising the track "Let's Be Honest" for its "warm, bright harmonies and surfy rhythms (and handclapped breakdowns)." Spin was fond of the full-length album that followed, giving applause to the "summery Americana" that filled Song Book, the band's "sprawling debut album."
Overseas, Family of the Year has enjoyed even greater success, as the band follows in the footsteps of American acts who have seen their fortunes abroad aid their ambitions at home. This past February, they embarked upon their first major tour of Europe, playing to sold-out crowds in London and Paris, and visiting national radio outlets including the BBC and Radio Nova in France, where their single "Psyche or Like Scope" held the #1 spot for two months. Just this past weekend the band returned to France to perform at the Vieilles Charrues Festival where they entertained a crowd of 10,000, their largest to date.
Currently based in Los Angeles, the members of Family of the Year come from all corners of the country. The band was formed in 2009 around brothers Joe and Sebastian Keefe, who were born in Wales and grew up living year round on Martha's Vineyard. James Buckey hails from Jacksonville, FL, and Christina Schroeter from Orange County, California.
