ALTERNATIVE PRESS PREMIERES "LARS ATTACKS!" MUSIC VIDEO
Brooklyn, NY – Post-punk laptop rapper MC LARS will release his eighth full-length albumLARS ATTACKS! on September 6, 2011 on his very own label Horris Records. Alternative Press debuted the paranormal-themed video for the first single “Lars Attacks!” today, which was directed by his best friend Tim Thompson (“White Kids Aren’t Hyphy”, “Single and Famous”, “The Gigantic Robot Kills”). "Lars Attacks! is about attacking the audience with the truth. Every single song on the album is about faith and karma and how that can play out, positively or negatively,” explains MC Lars.
Spiritual in direction and message, Lars Attacks! was written and recorded in Brooklyn, NY. It was co-produced by MC Lars, Mike Sapone (Brand New, Taking Back Sunday), Chris Bittner(Coheed And Cambria, Weerd Science), K. Flay, Joe Oliger and mixed by Mike Sapone and Chris Bittner with help from Lars. Collaborations include KRS-One, Sage Francis, Weerd Science, Mac Lethal, and John Reuben. “‘The Gospel of Hip-Hop’ with KRS-One was inspired by a book he recently wrote of the same name," he explains. "It's about how hip-hop returns us to our true creative elements once technology has been removed... it humanizes us." The album recording, production, and manufacturing were completely funded by an uber successful Kickstarter campaign, which raised nearly five times his original goal for a total of $23,282 (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/horrisrecords/mc-lars-lars-attacks).
“Lars Attacks! is a more serious record and I was able to harness the energy and electricity of being back in New York City for this project - I went back to where hip-hop began. There is nothing really topical or pop culture-related about this album, which is why I'm proud of it. We were able to make it completely through fan donations through Kickstarter, so I got to decide everything about it,” adds Lars.
MC Lars is a world-renowned post-punk laptop rapper, indie rap entrepreneur, and owner of Horris Records. He was born in Berkeley, grew up in Oakland Hills, and later went on to study English studies at Stanford University and internationally at Oxford University in England. He’s released eight full-lengths, four EP’s, two DVD’s, two books, and has toured with bands such as Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Gym Class Heroes, Say Anything, Bayside, Simple Plan, Bowling For Soup, Cartel, and many others.
Lars Attacks! drops on September 6, 2011 via Horris Records. You can catch him performing all Summer long on the 2011 Vans Warped Tour alongside of his co-conspirator Weerd Science.
