Brings Camaradas el Barrio to the Screen!
Described by some as the "Latin Gnarls Barkley,” and recently profiled in New York Magazine, NAVEGANTE brings to the world Electro-Latin Funk: a danceable yet intense mix of deep bass lines, hard hitting beats, and electrified Puerto Rican Cuatro.
Bronx-born, Puerto Rican/Peruvian vocalist and cuatrista Jean Shepherd leads the band. Formerly the founder of the ground-breaking Latin rock group Radio Mundial (Palm Pictures), his song "La Raíz" was covered by Carlos Santana as "El Fuego" on Santana’s platinum album All That I Am, and they toured extensively worldwide.
Cuban-American drummer Wash Alcebo Duke fuses funk, Afrobeat, and Afro-Cuban rhythms with gritty, dubbed-out electronic beats. Nineteen-year-old Nuyorican prodigy Guillo Colon, formerly of Yerbabuena, rounds out the band on bass and synth.
In less than a year, NAVEGANTE has built a diverse fan base in NYC. Their last show, at Camaradas—a Spanish Harlem bar they play biweekly—was packed wall to wall. NAVEGANTE unites the rhythm of the Latin world with the streets and beats of NYC, producing a new harmony that's universal in spirit and sound, yet uniquely original in style and substance. Please join us in spreading the word on this extraordinary band.
