Summer of Ian Campaign Kicked off Last Week with “Nowhere” and Will Continue Each Month
RIYL: Sufjan Stevens, Badly Drawn Boy, Death Cab For Cutie, The Beach Boys, Damien Rice
New York, NY—Seinfeld had “The Summer of George,” and while indie musical artist Ian McGlynn is not attempting to be Jerry Seinfeld’s “relationship intern” the way George Costanza was, he is attempting to make it a memorable summer for himself and for his fans. McGlynn is releasing a series of digital singles that he is aptly calling The Summer of Ian, the first being “Nowhere,” released on May 26. The bittersweet ballad, co-written with McGlynn’s songwriting partner Chris Newkirk, is the long-awaited proper rendering of the song after it graced the closing credits of the Nick Nolte/Timothy Hutton indie film, Off The Black.
“Nowhere” also features the original artwork by Smitten By Stephanie, and subsequently each single’s release will feature the work from a different unique artist. The remaining three songs being released (on iTunes, Rhapsody, emusic, Amazon and CDBaby) are “I Took An Oath” on June 23, “Listening In,” on July 28, and “We Should Hang in the Museum” on August 25. The series is the follow up project to McGlynn’s most recent full-length, This Is the Sound, which was released this past October.
As a special promotion to kick off the Summer of Ian, McGlynn is giving away a free download of his own summer anthem, “Memorial Day Parade,” via Twitter for those who purchase the download of “Nowhere.” For more information, please visit www.twitter.com/michaeljmedia.
About Ian McGlynn
Ian McGlynn’s latest full-length album, This Is the Sound, marks the artist’s first time producing, and he did so alongside John Mosloskie (Holler, Wild Rose!). McGlynn’s goal was to create something organic, cinematic and catchy, and the production team did just that. Full of warmth, waltz and patented soaring choruses, (not to mention McGlynn’s signature piano sounds, lush organs quirky synths, chiming guitars and glockenspiel), This Is the Sound is not just a declaration—it’s an invitation to listen.
McGlynn’s work has been featured in films such as Off the Black, as well as the Meg Ryan/Antonio Banderas feature, My Mom’s New Boyfriend, and the extreme ski flick One.
In addition to his previous studio work such as Tomorrow’s Taken (2004) and a live album Lemon (2002), McGlynn’s music has also been featured on an internationally released Posies tribute album, as well as his song “Catharsis” landing on a compilation called Other Songs and Dances Vol. 1 alongside iconic artists such as Duncan Sheik.
