STATE RADIO will return to the road February 22 in support of the release of their new album YEAR OF THE CROW. Marking a partnership between STATE RADIO's own Ruff Shod label and Nettwerk, YEAR OF THE CROW--the follow-up to their 2006 debut Us Against The Crown--is due out February 5. The Boston-based trio will appear on NPR's popular "Day To Day" program for an interview and acoustic performance during the week of release.
The forthcoming dates follow the musically inventive and socio-politically conscious trio's recent Australian shows with Beautiful Girls, with whom STATE RADIO--CHAD STOKES (singer/guitarist), CHUCK FAY (bass) and MIKE "MAD DOG" NAJARIAN (drums)--toured the U.S. last fall. The group will also bring their dynamic live show to the Langerado Music Festival March 8 at the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation, where they'll join R.E.M., the Beastie Boys, G. Love & Special Sauce, The Wailers, Citizen Cope and many others. Following Langerado, the band head overseas for a European tour before returning to the America to perform at the Wakarusa Festival (June 5-8 in Lawrence, KS) alongside The Flaming Lips, CAKE, Galactic, Betty LaVette and many more. In addition, look for the band to announce a slew of additional major U.S. festival dates soon.
In May, the trio will head back to the U.K.--where they recorded YEAR OF THE CROW with renowned producer Tchad Blake (Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Pearl Jam)--for the Give It A Name Festival on May 10 in Sheffield and May 11 in London, performing alongside Paramore, 30 Seconds To Mars, Anti-Flag and Chiodos among others. Following the Give It A Name Festival, STATE RADIO will join Anti-Flag for a week-long U.K. tour culminating in a headlining show at King's College in London on Tuesday, May 20.
STATE RADIO recently completed the video for their first single, the blues-thumping "Gang of Thieves," which can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvm3FqtrmJw. The group is currently lensing a video for "Rash of Robberies" with the animator Sam White, the visual artist team Tape Art (tapeart.com) and the Trummerkind collective (trummerkind.com) who famously built a full one-bedroom apartment inside the Providence Place Mall and lived there for four years without being detected. To check out the live streaming real-time making of "Rash of Robberies," visit: http://tapeart.com/green/zero7/artaquarium/index.html.
Meanwhile, STATE RADIO--who won the "Outstanding Live Act of the Year" prize at the Boston Music Awards in December--have announced "The Story of Benjamin Darling. Part 1" will be featured on Paste magazine's "Paste Recommends" compilation in the magazine's spring sampler. In addition, "Gang Of Thieves" is now available as a free download on Harp magazine's website; visit: http://www.harpmagazine.com/promotions/downloads/. On April 8, STATE RADIO's song "Camilo" will be featured on the Green Owl Comp: A Benefit for the Energy Action alongside Feist, Of Montreal, Bloc Party, Deerhoof and many others. The CD/DVD compilation will benefit the youth-centric environmental network the Energy Action Coalition. For more info, visit: http://www.greenowlrecords.com/.
Through his efforts as the frontman for Dispatch--which sold over 600,000 albums by word of mouth and reunited this summer for a three-night, sold-out stand at Madison Square Garden donating all proceeds for the plight in Zimbabwe--STATE RADIO's lead singer/guitarist CHAD STOKES has proved to be a unique fixture who defies music industry traditions. CHAD will hit the studio this month in Boston to score the soundtrack for the TV series he's developed called "How's Your News?" The series is based on the original acclaimed HBO/Cinemax docu-feature film of the same name which was backed by Matt Stone and Trey Parker of "South Park" fame. "How's Your News?"--which features five reporters all living with a disability, who travel the U.S. in a camper van interviewing people they meet along the way--will debut on MTV in the coming months: www.howsyournews.com.
