EPISTASIS: Complete New EP From NYC Avant-Metal Collective Playing At Noisey

In less than a week, Crucial Blast will release the label's first recordings from NYC metal experimentalists, EPISTASIS, with their Light Through Dead Glass mini-album, and today Noisey lets the whole thing loose early.

Set for release on April 1st, the collective's latest sonic explorations are documented through six new movements on the new EP, EPISTASIS' own specialized, unclassifiable mangling of influences swirling into a chaotic, devastating and yet beautiful entity. The haunting and crushing range of vocals pouring forth from Amy Mills' (Couch Slut) matched with her mournful trumpet contributions somehow weaves seamlessly into the barrage of percussion unloaded by drummer Alex Cohen (Pyrrhon, Malignancy) while guitarist Kevin Wunderlich (Couch Slut, Voice Coils) and bassist Doug Berns lay down an equally vast culmination of amplification and riff tactics. Mills recently also played trumpet on new albums from Castevet and Psalm Zero. The EP was recorded under the watch of Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans, Unsane).

Vice's music outlet, Noisey, is now streaming Light Through Dead Glass, letting folks know if they are simply "looking for a more traditional coprse-painted-bro-sawing-out-tremolo-riffs-to-a-fisher-price-recorder, look elsewhere," continuing with, "the NYC quartet uses ambient passages, complex death metal riffing and more to create their nightmare, crafting six tracks of astounding horror."

Listen now out now at THIS LOCATION.

EPISTASIS will showcase their latest works at a hometown gala, just days after the official release ofLight Through Dead Glass. On Sunday, April 6th, Kayo Dot, White Suns, and Pyrrhon will share the stage at the Acheron in Brooklyn with EPISTASIS at the band's official release show for the record.

"The intense cacophonous dirges, the psychosis-drenched riffs, and the insane stylistic shifts all serve to point out that this band means business. Light Through Dead Glass is definitely something to get excited for. 9/10" - American Aftermath

"By shifting their direction after already establishing a unique sound, EPISTASIS have become purveyors of a highly varied and unpredictable strain of experimental black metal unlike anything I've ever heard. If Light Through Dead Glass doesn't show up on numerous year end lists, I quit." - No Clean Singing

"There's never a dull moment... If we can play etymologist here, perhaps the trumpet's the calm before the world-ending storm. It's a thing of beauty..." - Invisible Oranges
