“... disco, boogie, and old-school electro sounds for a
modern scene.” – XLR8R
Midnight Magic’s blend of funk, soul, and electro-tinged disco has been setting airwaves and dance floors ablaze in NYC where they lay their roots and beyond. Since bursting onto the scene in 2009 with a series of 12” singles, including “I Found Love,” a recent collaboration with Tommie Sunshine, and dance floor smash “Beam Me Up”, the band has become revered for their irresistibly catchy hooks and seductive live show. The psychedelic-soul army has struck again with their debut full length, Walking The Midnight Streets, out November 13th on their own Midnight Sun Sound.
Space invader and title track “Walking The Midnight Streets” opens the album with bright horn melodies and commanding vocals before flowing into the infectious base line of “Beam Me Up,” which continues heat up dance floors internationally. “Diamonds” is flush with rich brass melodies, rolling synths and cavernous, echoing vocals.
“Same Way I Feel” is a smooth, seductive track driven by bursts of horns over a funky bass line. Grab the MP3 it where it premiered with Pitchfork today or HERE. Feel free to post & share!
Having performed alongside bands like Holy Ghost, Cut Copy, and Escort, Midnight Magic has proven to be a force both in the studio and on the stage. The nine-piece ensemble includes Carter Yasutake, Morgan Wiley, Nick Roseboro, Jason Disu and W. Andrew Raposo, all alumnae of many celebrated DFA bands, including the late LCD Soundsystem, setting a solid foundation for the vocal stylings of frontwoman Tiffany Roth.
