The Dø Announce North American Dates & New Release

FOUR STAR ALBUM REVIEW FROM UK’s UNCUT

"Paris based pair dazzle with deluxe Europop manifesto...a classy musical ancestry including Bjork, Fever Ray and The Cardigans."

NEW RELEASE: “BOTH WAYS OPEN JAWS EXTENDED” LIVE SESSIONS OUT DIGITALLY ON JULY 10TH VIA SIX DEGREES RECORDS

BAND NOMINATED FOR “UP & COMER” BEST NEW ARTIST AWARD FOR THE FIRST ANNUAL A2IM LIBERA AWARDS (AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT MUSIC)

“Truly impressive, The Dø gracefully pull off the kind of intriguing ‘oddness’ the likes of Florence Welch strain and wheeze for, and with better tunes. Paris is lighting a match.”

French/Finnish duo The Dø released their critically acclaimed sophomore effort, Both Ways Open Jaws in North America in November of 2011 via Six Degrees Records.  The album was heralded by outlets ranging fromPitchfork to Amazon.com to the London Sunday Times, who called it “a late contender for Album of the Year.” The band will soon embark on a North American tour in July and August in support of this classic yet contemporary album.

To coincide with the tour, the band is releasing the digital-only album LIVE SESSIONS: BOTH WAYS OPEN JAWS EXTENDED at STUDIO PIGALLE on July 10th. The band’s live sound in the sessions incorporate a range of influences and styles, from delicate and intimate to a propulsive and powerful full-band groove.  The album includes live versions of key tracks from the band’s two main album releases, as well as two new songs – an original song titled “Mind Police” and an epic nine-minute version of Janelle Monae’s “Tightrope.”

"We decided to record the live versions of our new songs with our musicians because they had developed such an identity of their own, we had to keep a record.  They'd become complimentary to the studio album. Many fans had also been requesting a live album.  We wanted to record ‘live in a studio,’ not on stage because we were after a warm studio sound, and The Pigalle Studio was the right one for it. We love to take songs to different levels, it keeps things fresh and exciting."

French multi-instrumentalist Dan Levy and Finnish vocalist Olivia Merilahti met in 2005 while recording the soundtrack to a French movie and started writing songs together on the side.  This side project took center stage when A Mouthful (the band’s first release) garnered praise from the likes of Pitchfork, and the band went on to play festivals and tour worldwide. Most recently, the band was nominated for the “Up & Comer” Best New Artistaward for the first annual American Association of Independent Music. This award is presented by eMusic and celebrates the next independent label superstar artist.
