Concord Records is pleased to announce a
world-wide agreement with Austin, TX-based indie label Playing in Traffic to
re-release Blind Sighted Faith, the debut album by rising
British quintet The Dunwells, on August 28, 2012. Blind
Sighted Faith, self-released earlier this year, will include the newly
written and recorded track, “So Beautiful,” produced by George Drakoulias,
known for his work with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, The Black Crowes and
The Jayhawks, among others.
Emerging from the pubs and clubs of Leeds, England, their
hometown, The Dunwells have quickly made waves stateside since their first
appearance here at the 2011 North American Folk Alliance Conference. “Anyone
that’s seen them has just been ‘Oh my God! The quality of the songs, the
quality of the playing, the quality of the vocals, the harmonies, they’re mind
boggling,” Folk Alliance Executive Director Louis Jay Meyers told Voice
of America radio. Soon after, they began sessions for their debut at
Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio outside of Austin with GRAMMYÒ-winning
producer and Roxy Music bassist John Porter (Bryan Ferry, The Smiths, Ryan
Adams).
The Dunwells, formed in 2009 in Yorkshire, are comprised of
brothers Joseph Dunwell (vocals, guitar) and David Dunwell (guitar, piano,
banjo) along with cousins Jonny Lamb (vocals, drums) and Rob Clayton (bass) and
longtime best mate Dave Hanson (guitar, pedal steel).
Their stellar musicianship, classic roots songwriting and
soaring harmony vocals have already made instant but lasting impressions on
scores of fans. Word-of-mouth is spreading quickly, further hastening their
ascent. “We're obviously huge fans of American music and its
history, but we didn't set out with that in mind when we started playing
together. It was an unexpected thing, really,” says David Dunwell. “We’re
all in it for the same reason. We just love making music.”
The Dunwells’ extensive 40-city U.S. tour kicks off at New
York’s Mercury Lounge on July 18th.
