THE GIVING TREE BAND ANNOUNCE SUMMER & FALL TOUR DATES
RECORDING FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM
APPEARING ON HOME ON THE RANGE COMPILATION
TO BENEFIT NEGLECTED FARM ANIMALS
Since the release of their latest album The Joke, The Threat & The Obvious, The Giving Tree Band have kept busy crisscrossing the nation, playing anywhere their path takes them. Be it a road house, large scale music festival, small bar, or The Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center, they've humbly brought their music to those who would listen. This summer and fall they'll continue to do so, with new dates currently confirmed through mid-October. Dates Below.
Through it all the band have seen the crowds that greet them steadily increase as they've made a name for themselves by way of their live performances and excellent albums. On the PBS television program, Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour, host Michael Johnathon introduced The Giving Tree Band as "the spirit of Pete Seeger with the musical abilities of The Band and the audaciousness of The Avett Brothers" The band were labeled a band "On The Verge" by Relix Magazine, and in anAcoustic Guitar magazine feature this Spring, were described as covering a "wide swath of the classic rock pantheon-such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, the Band, the Grateful Dead, and the Beatles-but with a fuller sound featuring quasi-orchestral instrumentation and barbershop harmonies."
Apart from their sound, The Giving Tree Band is also giving a new look to rock and roll - one that is healthy and hip. Perhaps the rarest aspect of the band is their diet. It is estimated that less than 1% of Americans identify as vegan, and yet all seven members of the GTB have embraced this lifestyle. They also remain drug and alcohol free in order to access deeper creative potential and, in all likelihood, longevity. The Fink brothers felt that if John Lennon and John Coltrane endorsed sobriety at the end of their lives, then they would begin their musical journey where their idols left off (at least philosophically) and see what's possible. The Giving Tree Band is also widely considered to be one of the "greenest" bands and known for extraordinary environmental stewardship which includes custom instruments made from naturally fallen trees and reclaimed woods, biodiesel tours, affinity for biking and camping, 100% recycled packaging of all CD's, carbon neutral album production, and donating as much as 50% of sales to eco-friendly charities.
When not touring The Giving Tree band have been busy at their home studio in Yorkville, IL, working on recording their fourth studio album. The past year on the road has greatly affected the bands sound as they've begun to introduce more of their rock 'n' roll influenced live sound to their songwriting and recording. The band hope to complete the album this fall and plan to release their new record in 2012. In the mean time, they will be featured on a benefit compilation entitled, Home On The Range, alongside other notable vegetarian and vegan artists Chrissie Hynde, Yoko Ono, Moby and Matisyahu. Set for a September release, proceeds will go to farm animal sanctuaries that rescue and care for abused and neglected farm animals.
