You just gotta love a classically trained rock band. And France's Revolver has made that easy. After two North American tours in the span of a year's time, and the release of the acclaimed Astralwerksdebut Music For A While (as well as the follow up Parallel Lives EP), they're back in the states as a part of the Voulez-Vous? tour, where they are co-headlining with fellow French band Chateau Marmont. Showcasing both Revolver's French pop and Chateau Marmont's synthetic/electronic leanings, the bands aim to give people a unique snapshot of two ends of the current French scene. This is emulated in Revolver's choice of remixers as well, with Austin's Botany (Western Vinyl)providing a thick, atmospheric take on "A Song She Wrote," and with San Francisco's Fivengcreating a bedroom pop dremscaped with his remix of "Balulalow." The former can be found atBrooklyn Vegan, and the latter at My Old Kentucky Blog.
Ambroise Willaume (vocals, guitar, piano) and Jeremie Arcache (cello, vocals) met at France’s prestigious Maitrise Notre Dame de Paris music school, which has been running since the 12th century. The pair later teamed up with Christophe Musset (vocals, guitar) to form the basis for the band. While their name is taken from the seminal Beatles album, it’s a fitting description for the group’s evolving sound. Pairing classical chamber music with influences such as Elliot Smith and The Velvet Underground might seem like a particularly daunting task, until you hear the masterful way they pull these influences together.
