"By conceiving one of the most creative debuts of his generation, Say Anything mastermind Max Bemis cemented his spot among rock's brightest thinkers." Alternative Press
"Say Anything could conceivably make some of the best records of all time….” Spin
Say Anything, led by creative mastermind and lyrical genius Max Bemis, will be releasing their sophomore album IN DEFENSE OF THE GENRE (J Records) on October 23rd. The first single from the album is “Baby Girl, I'm a Blur.” Produced and mixed by Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Liz Phair, mewithoutyou), IN DEFENSE OF THE GENRE is a double disc concept album. The songs recount Max’s experience of being consumed by love, having a mental breakdown, pursuing a career while having your heart crushed, picking up the pieces and becoming a better man for it. Say Anything is comprised of Max Bemis (Vocals), Coby Linder (Drums), Alex Kent (Bass), Parker Case (Keyboards, Guitar, Vocals), and twin brothers Jake and Jeff Turner (Guitars,Vocals). The new album presents the growth and maturity the band has experienced touring together over the last two years. On IN DEFENSE OF THE GENRE, Bemis is at the top of his songwriting game – his autobiographical lyrics are at the same time, compelling and jarring. Combined with the expert musicianship of the band, IN DEFENSE OF THE GENRE, is an engaging and thrilling second effort.
The band’s debut album …Is A Real Boy received extraordinary amounts of media praise (Alternative Press, Spin, Variety, Billboard, Rolling Stone, Blender, Village Voice, NY Times, LA Times, and more) and has sold 200,000 albums since its release in 2006. J Records re-released
… Is A Real Boy as a double disc - the first containing the 13 tracks originally released on Doghouse Records in July of 2004 and the second entitled ...Was A Real Boy contains original demos. …Is A Real Boy featured two singles-- their first “Alive With The Glory Of Love,” about falling in love in a concentration camp, and their cheeky second single about phone sex, “Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too,” was outrageously captured on screen by director Shane Drake (winner of the 2006 VMA "Video of the Year" for his work with Panic! At The Disco). The video, which featured a cameo of Henry Winkler aka “The Fonz,” in front of a Prius, received lots of love from the video channels and online: MTV, Fuse, AOL, and Yahoo.
Experiencing Say Anything live is like being swept up into a religious movement - ecstatic followers hang onto each word and are shaken by every note. The band will be co-headlining the Myspace Music tour with hellogoodbye, kicking off Oct. 16 in Seattle, WA and will wrap in Las Vegas Thanksgiving weekend.
