Florida Indie-alternative band, The Cruxshadows, just blew out the candles on their best “Birthday” ever, celebrating their second consecutive Billboard #1 single today. Almost one year ago to the day, the band's single "Sophia" debuted at #1 on the Billboard Dance Singles Sales Chart. This feat was made all the more incredible because it knocked hitmaker Beyonce’s new single down to the #2 slot. The band repeated the feat on Billboard's September 22nd 2007 chart, with their brand-new single, "Birthday," debuting at #1.
Excitement surrounding the band was so intense that “Sophia” re-entered the charts and is currently #3 on the same chart. On Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales Chart, “Birthday” debuted at #2, bested only by the juggernaut single from “High School Musical 2.”
A live video of the band performing "Birthday" in front of 15,000 fans at the MIDI festival in Beijing, China is now available on YouTube. The band's Chinese tour in May of this year attracted a great deal of media and public attention for the group.
Live shows are a mainstay of The Cruxshadows, who typically perform in excess of 100 live shows per year. They were one of the first Western acts to play in Romania & Serbia following the end of the cold war and have performed in over twenty-five countries. Their concerts are notable for their high degree of energy, showmanship, and their vocalist's habit of walking out into the audience and climbing the venue walls while singing.
The band's addictive blend of electronic music and alternative rock has made them mainstays in underground dance clubs. Lyrically, they draw heavily from ancient mythology, and tend to focus on themes of responsibility, loyalty, passion and faith. The band's motto is "Live, love, be, believe," and it serves as a reminder that while The Cruxshadows may write catchy songs, the band has depth that extends beyond the dance floor.
