Laetitia Sadier kicks off her North American
tour in support of her new solo album, Silencio (out
now on Drag City), this weekend in Chicago. It's fitting that
Laetitia brings the political messages of Silencio to Chicago,
where public school teachers are currently on strike, first. Laetitia
previously toured the states as a solo act supporting Beirut prior
to the release of Silencio. Drummer James Elkington and
bassist Julien Gasc, who both worked onSilencio, join
Laetitia onstage, marking the first Laetitia Sadier tour with a full band.
Earlier today, Stereogum premiered the video for "Find
Me The Pulse Of The Universe," the lead single from Silencio.
The video depicts Laetitia scrawling numbers on a whiteboard and dancing amidst
a host of geometric shapes. If the Chicago teachers continue to strike,
Laetitia might have to stick around to show these public school kids a thing or
two!

"Stereolab, the world's greatest Kraut-lounge act,
ended its two-decade-long organ riff in 2009. But French frontwoman Laetitia
Sadier has carried on in its absence, and on Silencio, she's made an
honest-to-goodness protest album...Silencio serves up a reminder
that music still tries to kill a few fascists now and then." - NPR
"Silencio flows smoothly...with its big
textures, pace shifts, tasteful blips of vintage electronics, and measured
vocals floating parallel to the rhythm." -Boston Globe
"[Laetitia Sadier]'s never sounded stronger or more
assured than she does here." - Chicago Reader
