"I think what I like most about Glocca Morra, as
typified by Just Married, is that they veer so far away from taking
themselves seriously that, as a listener, I can’t help but feel like they’re
completely genuine." - The Needle Drop

on listening to. Just go ahead and click play right now." -AbsolutePunk
Just three short months after releasing their debut
full-length Just Married on Kind of Like
Records, GLOCCA MORRA have returned with a brand new
six-song EP titled An Obscure Moon Lighting An Obscure World,
due out October 16, 2012on Kind of Like Records. Showcasing a
matured version of the band, An Obscure Moonbuilds on their
signature joyfully poppy indie garage sound. The barely-restrained anger that
was such a critical part of Just Married is still evident but
in smaller doses, peaking out around the angular, poppy guitar riffs and huge,
sing-along choruses that critics hailed on their last release.
"It's angry without directly proving it. It will take a
few minutes to realize how sad or livid each song is because it isn't being
yelled at you (for the most part)," explains singer/guitarist Zack
Schwartz of the new EP. "The songs sound different because we
have a new member [Nate Dionne of Snowing]. The writing
is smoother and more enjoyable, there's less apparent noodling. We hope people
are disappointed," he deadpans acerbically. But fans of Glocca Morra have
nothing to worry about - lyrics like "the next time you break my
cigarette, with breakneck speed I'll fucking break your neck" prove the
band is still just as potty-mouthed and caustic ever - though their sound has
matured, it remains something of a relief to say Glocca Morra hasn't really grown
up at all.
The band, who will appear at Fest 11, has
also announced a run of late fall tour dates (all dates below). The
first song from the new EP "See Through Person" can
now be heard via SoundCloud at http://soundcloud.com/kindoflikerecords/glocca-morra-see-through.
"It's about not truly knowing anything about anyone, and desperately
needing people who don't desperately need you," explains Zack cryptically.
But for as bizarre and mysterious as Glocca Morra can be, An Obscure
Moon is anything but. Effervescent, overwhelming and hopelessly
addictive, it's the perfect soundtrack for shorter days and fall drives with
all the windows down.
