volcano! has been described by some as a perfect
union of pragmatic chaos and fertile creativity (it was me. I just did it).
They take a morsel of inspiration, workshop it as a team, let their creative
juices flow, and out the other end comes an amazing final product: a song that
is truly the amalgam of the initial spark and the personalities of each member
of the band.
We're pleased to announce the inaugural episode of Seed
to Flower Thursday's with volcano!, a weekly Youtube series that will shed
light on the inspiration behind virtually every song off volcano!'s forthcoming
release, Piñata, out June 12th on The Leaf Label. Each
episode begins with an invitation into the musical laboratory of Aaron With,
volcano!'s singer and lyricist, who explains that every song is like a flower,
and like flowers, songs must begin as seeds. This never-before-used nature
analogy further comes to life when volcano! then debut previously unreleased
home footage and dramatic re-enactments of the moments in time that inspired
each of their new songs. Most importantly, each video ends with a full
stream of the new track in its entirety. Not since VH1's Storytellers have
music fans been given such a raw and truthful glimpse behind the curtain.
Now, without further ado, the first episode...
PRAISE FOR "PIÑATA"
"Chicago trio volcano! earned praise for their jagged
electro-pop on 2008's Paperwork and 'Piñata,' the first single
and title track from their upcoming album, follows in that spirit." - MTV
Hive
"'Piñata' is a standout from their forthcoming,
Dirty Projectors-stamped full-length of the same name" - SPIN
"The group are set to release Pinata, their
third record, on June 12th via the Leaf Label, and it's shaping up to be a
listening experience you aren't likely to find anywhere else. Seriously, a
patient ear will lead you to the immense pleasure this track has to
offer." - Austin Town Hall
