Stepdad was formed in a sweltering Chicago apartment in the summer of 2009 when two songwriters turned roommates, ultramark and Ryan McCarthy, began writing songs together. The duo relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where they finished their first EP called Ordinaire. Due to an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the 8 songs contained on this EP, the boys added long time friend and bassist Alex Fives and drummer Jeremy Malvin, and began performing their pop jams in front of many a crowd. Oh yeah and during all of this the boys also wrote some theme songs for stuff (Axe Cop), shot some music videos, got arrested, & built a rather rabid fanbase. Out September 6th, 2011, this remastered bonus edition of the previously self-released debut EP will resurface with a proper national release on Quite Scientific. With an additional two bonus tracks "Find Love" and "Magic Stones" this 10 track EP is wallop of a first offering by the buzz gathering new comers Stepdad. *****************
"After hearing it once, it’s going to be in your head all day. But you like having it in your head. Thinking about it puts you in a good mood; your foot starts tapping as you hum a few bars of it on your way to work/school.”
– Sputnik “One of the main things many can appreciate about Stepdad is that they are a band with personality: costumes, face paint, a very open and likeable online presence.”
– Mostly Midwest “About the only way I can think of to describe them is that it’s like laying in the warm sunshine on a lazy summer afternoon. You just have to relax and smile.”
– Revival Magazine “If Passion Pit and The Postal Service got drunk one night and had a kid out of wedlock, the result would be Stepdad.”
