NYC-based electronic trio House of Blondes premiere new
video for “Slow Motion Tourist" today on World of Wonder. The
track, available for download via RCRD LBL, was also recently included in
Beatport’s Top Ten Must Hear Tracks and compared to GAS, Eno, New Order,
and early OMD.
The “Slow Motion Tourist” video depicts an astronaut’s hallucinations of life
on Earth during his last moments in space, and features several NYC landmarks
including the Seagram Building and Whitney Museum. The Seagram, designed
by Mies van der Rohe in '58, and the Whitney, designed by Marcel Breuer in '66,
stood in stark contrast to their surrounding buildings at the time, as if
alien structures had landed in the middle of Manhattan. These two modern
masterpieces create a space age backdrop for the astronaut’s last
comforting thoughts.
“Slow Motion Tourist” was written and produced by House of
Blondes (John Blonde, Brian McNamara, and Chris Pace) and is taken from their
debut album Clean Cuts, out now on Glowmatic Records. The video was
directed by House of Blondes’ own John Blonde, produced by German artist
Kurt W. Sawilla, edited by Max Cohn, and filmed by Jeffrey W.
Hagerman (who recently worked Camera on Michel Gondry's soon-to-be-released
film The We and The I). Digital projections were provided by Joshua
Sophrin of the New Museum. The astronaut is played by Canadian actor Patrick
Colford.
Influenced by the films Zardoz, Stalker, Moon,
and the mighty 2001: A Space Odyssey, the video can also be seen as
a tribute to NASA's recently concluded Space Shuttle program.
House of Blondes will perform at Spike Hill in Brooklyn on 7/8/2012 at 8:30pm.
