Tricky announces new LP + shares first single

STREAM: "Nicotine Love feat. Francesca Belmonte" - http://youtu.be/PJ2DVq5EOC0

"Calling it Adrian Thaws is saying you don't really know me," says Tricky, explaining the title of his 11th album. "So many times people have tried to put a finger on me and every album I go to a different place."

It's typical of one of music's most unpredictable characters that the first album to bear his birth name is one of his least introspective. Adrian Thaws is a vivid, attention-grabbing set of songs which roam from hip hop to house, jazz to blues, rock to reggae. It was recorded in Tricky's home studio in London, where he's living again after almost two decades in New York, Los Angeles and Paris, and features an international crew of collaborators: Francesca Belmonte, Nneka, Mykki Blanco, Bella Gotti, Tirzah, Blue Daisy and Oh Land. It's designed to be played loud.

"I suppose this is my club/hip hop album," he says. "I've only heard my music a few times in a club but I grew up in clubs from when I was 14: blues parties, hip hop clubs, a few raves.  I'm not known for doing club music but this album has some club tracks on it - well, what I would consider club music."

Tricky makes complicated music because Adrian Thaws has had a complicated life. Born in 1968, he grew up in an extended family that was both black and white, urban and rural, containing strong women and volatile men. His choice of cover versions is revealing. Janet Kay's 1979 lovers rock classic "Silly Games" reminds him of his childhood in Bristol's Knowle West district. London Posse's 1990 track "Gangster Chronicle" harks back to his musical apprenticeship with the Wild Bunch and Massive Attack under the name Tricky Kid before he launched his solo career with 1995's startlingMaxinquaye.

Tricky has always used music to explore the different, sometimes contradictory facets of his background and personality. "I can be anything I want when I do an album," he says. "I could be a woman, I could be a man. It's great to be able to be all these different things."

Adrian Thaws is Tricky's second release on his own False Idols label via !K7, hard on the heels of his 2013 album, also called False Idols. One thing that makes Adrian Thaws such a gripping, commanding album is the prominence of Tricky's own vocals but, as always, he's brought company. Returning from False Idols is Irish-Italian singer Francesca Belmonte, who sings on "Lonnie Listen", "Something in the Way", "I Had a Dream" and new single "Nicotine Love" - Tricky's first full-blown house track. "Fran can take an influence and make it her own," Tricky says approvingly. German-Nigerian singer Nneka, who also sang on False Idols, reappears on the smoky hip hop blues of "Keep Me in Your Shake". "She's really easy to work with," he says. "I wish she was more well known. We need more women like that."

There are new faces too. British grime MC Bella Gotti (formerly known as Nolay) is a dynamically belligerent presence on the two-fisted hip hop tracks "Gangster Chronicle" and "Why Don't You". "Her style is so aggressive," says Tricky. "There's nothing worse than weak hip hop. If I'm going to do it I want it to be intense." American MC Mykki Blanco, who joins Francesca on "Lonnie Listen's" android hip hop, impressed Tricky when he supported him at a show in Germany. "I saw this dude in a mini-skirt and high heels and he was so aggressive on stage. Some of the crowd were like what the fuck? Imagine a big dude with a woman's rage - that's someone who can do some serious damage."

London singer Tirzah, who performs "Silly Games" and ominous opening track "Sun Down" with hints of Martina's deadpan cool, was introduced to Tricky by his daughter Mazy "She called me and said dad will you work with Tirzah. That's my daughter A&Ring me, which is cool as fuck." Mazy also appears on the album as Silver Tongue. Danish singer-songwriter Oh Land duets with Tricky on "Right Here's" rumbling synth-pop. British electronic musician Blue Daisy, who co-wrote and remixed "My Palestine Girl", was another tour bus discovery. "We ended up drinking whisky, smoking weed and listening to music on the bus till five in the morning. I really liked the guy. I said you know what? My new album, come on it."

"My Palestine Girl" is the album's heaviest and most political track. A relationship with a Paris-based Palestinian inspired Tricky to think about the challenges of a relationship with someone who lived in Gaza. "Imagine if the love of your life was there," he says. "It's a political thing to divide and rule. I've been to Israel. The kids I met don't hate Palestinians. It's a political thing."

There's more political drama on "The Unloved", a street-corner revolutionary poem delivered by a friend called AJ. "I don't understand how music has got so lost," says Tricky. "This is what people used to do - speak about politics and society. We're in fucked-up times now. I might not change anything but at least I'm going to have a voice."

The confidence and energy of Adrian Thaws reflects Tricky's newfound sense of stability. After several years of uncertainly changing labels and managers, Tricky finally feels settled with !K7, where he's tidying up a lot of loose ends.

"I've been all over the place for years," he admits. "No discipline. I've just been making a mess and moving on. I can't really blame anybody. It is what it is. But I'm getting my shit together. Now I'm developing as a person my music's getting stronger."

This renewed purpose explains why Adrian Thaws arrives just 16 months after False Idols. There are more projects on the way including a covers record (his first since Nearly God) and Francesca Belmonte's debut album. Tricky has often found it difficult dealing with the music industry but making records is second nature and now there's nothing holding him back.

"Music is easy," he says with a husky laugh. "You've just got to be honest with yourself."

"Nicotine Love" (featuring Francesca Belmonte) is available for immediate download and with pre-orders for the album on iTunes.

Adrian Thaws is out September 8th on False Idols in association with !K7 Records. A 2LP Vinyl Gatefold and Deluxe Hard Case CD edition featuring a two bonus tracks and an exclusive booklet comprising never before seen photos from Tricky's youth is available to pre-order now via the !K7 store, hand signed by the artist.

HALCYON WAY was founded in 2001 and released its successful debut album "A Manifesto For Domination" in 2008 (via Nightmare Records).  That was followed up by the critically acclaimed "Building The Towers" in 2010, and the sequel to that release, "IndoctriNation", was released in 2011.

The band toured relentlessly over the last few years, going out with Fozzy in the UK, Delain for a full European tour, and North American tours with U.D.O., Saxon, and Fates Warning.

HALCYON WAY's sound cannot be neatly slotted into any sub-category of metal; but it can be described as heavy, catchy, technical, and above all, focused on mature song craft.  The band draws influences & inspiration from many metal bands from Megadeth to Dream Theater, Testament or Chimaira.  The focus of the songwriting is on catchy hooks, vocal harmonies à la King's X or Stryper, and on heavy, technical, but ultimately accessible instrumentation.

Monomyth just released the best music video you'll see this week! Watch "Patsy" off their debut album, Saturnalia Regalia! - Out July 22nd on Mint!

Monomyth's video for "Patsy"
is the greatest music video you'll see this week!

Recently debuted on Stereogum, the amazing video features a wedding, a cat with two different colored eyes, wine, slow dancing, a speech, a cat with two different colored eyes,
and more!

Their debut album, Saturnalia Regalia!, comes out on July 22nd, 2014 on Mint Records!

Monomyth is a crown jewel in the court of the crimson and clover. The Halifax four-piece carries on the hallowed East Coast tradition of janglophile pop with a smirking sense of humour, stadium-sized hooks, and starry-eyed harmonies from the barbershop of broken dreams.
The Monomyth monarchy is made up of twin tone guitarists Josh Salter and Seamus Dalton, stately bassist Graeme Stewart, and soft touch drummer Matt Peters, with the frontline swapping songwriting duties and turns at the mic. In the tightly knit Halifax kingdom, their faces can also be seen in beloved local bands like Nap Eyes, Moon and Psychic Fair, plus previous projects including Bird World and Quivers. These dizzying rotations have resulted in an all-star sovereignty with a princely pop pedigree, ruling with a velvet glove and ready for the next realm.
Following a pair of self-released cassettes and a two-song quick hitter for tape label Craft Singles, Saturnalia Regalia! heralds their triumphant LP debut. Though there’s a clear sonic lineage with the holy Halifax trinity of Sloan, Thrush Hermit, and the Super Friendz (whose bassist Charles Austin assisted in this album’s production), Monomyth also invoke the amber-encased Americana of Big Star, pranksterish pop moves of The dB’s and The Soft Boys, Television’s tangled guitarmonies, MBV tremolo ’gaze, and the radiant ramble of Relatively Clean Rivers.
That may sound like a vast range of sonic touchpoints, but the band’s three-piece throne prefers to explore all corners of their catholic tastes. “All of the songs were written independent of each other, so it doesn’t have a theme running through it, intentionally anyway,” says Dalton. “It’s all guitar, bass and drums, but having three songwriters adds some ups and downs. The many moods of Monomyth…”
While it’s far from a prog-style concept album or Van Dyke Parkian song cycle, Saturnalia Regalia! is threaded with a through-line from the Monomyth universe, exploring the timeless terrain of The Prince and the Pauper. “Saturnalia is the pagan holiday that Christmas took over,” explains Salter. “It’s also the day where the slave and the king have a role reversal. I think of a slave in a king’s uniform, because regalia comes from the word regal. Our last album was called King, Does This Not Please You? (Behold The Power), so it’s a vague reference.”
Musically, these songs run the stylistic gamut from an airy, Monkees-inspired intro (“Theme from Monomyth”) to a stormy shoegazing centerpiece (“Downer”), with the band’s trademark vocal harmonies weaving through live staple “Pac Ambition” and the extended finale of “The Big Reveal.” Moments of prettiness and placid calm are broken up with jarring shards of feedback and off-kilter shredding, stirred on by a final spiritual inspiration, The Replacements. “I think it’s fun throw a wrench in the gears just to see what happens,” says Salter. “It’s important to make pop music that’s a little fucked up because otherwise it’s just pop music.”

With the We Hate the Sea EP, we are offered a glimpse at where SWASHBUCKLE's rum-soaked minds have brought them over recent years and where their impending fourth studio full-length release will take them. Bearing four hornswagglling new rippers dispatched in less than seven minutes, We Hate the Sea will blast unsuspecting landlubbers broadside with the might of a typhoon, undoubtedly utilizing some of the crew's most mutinous tactics to date, the jingles conceived in grog-soaked skirmishes and harnessed during sessions at The Sound of Revolution with Len Carmichael.

On August 5th the quartermaster at Get This Right Records will have stockpiles of We Hate the Seain a a melee of colors/pressings, including 200 on blue/white swirl, 200 on black and a limited run of 100 on red/black smoke which will be limited to preorders with a numbered, special edition cover and a message from the band.

We Hate the Sea Track Listing:

In the mid 2000s, from the crumbling ports of Central New Jersey, sprang a band that has consistently held to one unifying principle: Thrash hard; Steal harder. With a career that began as a DIY tour de force of ramshackle maritime props seamlessly blended with blistering riffs,SWASHBUCKLE has steeped their unique brand of high-seas hijinks and nautical nonsense to an internationally tasty piratical mosh sauce via self-released demo material, a debut full length unleashed by indie record label Bald Freak Music, and two subsequent full-length albums under the world's foremost extreme metal label, Nuclear Blast Records. SWASHBUCKLE's discography swims parallel to an impressive campaign of touring cycles that range from their earliest self-booked trek, to countless professionally booked circuits of North America and Europe, and rounded out by appearances at numerous top music festivals including Summer Breeze, 70000 Tons of Metal, and Wacken Open Air.

Swashbuckle's core duo of bassist/vocalist Admiral Nobeard, and guitarist/backing vocalist Commodore RedRum have weathered the years with support, or lack thereof, from several retired band members including defunct keyboardist (Cabinboy Arsewhipe), a bellyaching guitarist (Rowin' Joe Po), the much ballyhooed, shitkickin' drummer (Captain Crashride), and finally a loquacious percussionist (Bootsmann Collins). The pirates currently sail into the fray with the Gameboy totin', Chiptune celebrity Legendary Pirate King Eric "The" Brown behind the drum kit.

IMOGEN HEAP TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM "SPARKS" ON AUGUST 19TH, 2014

Grammy and Ivor Novello award winning recording artist Imogen Heap will release her highly anticipated 4th solo album "Sparks" on August 19th, 2014 through RCA Records. The physical album is currently available for pre-order on Amazon here.

Sparks has been on a well travelled journey, one which Heap began at 6am 14 March 2011, with a live stream from her home studio in a small village on the outskirts of London, gathering 'sound seeds' from fans and weaving them together to form the first song (Lifeline). Fast forward, 4 continents later, a dozen related projects and 14 tracks, the album cover artwork was then completed by those who pre-ordered the limited edition, super deluxe box set by sending in their footprints! The stunning piece of artwork and packaging, designed and developed over the past three years by Imogen and her creative team with CSV (the company behind Radiohead's special packaging) it is the very first time that Imogen has released such a super deluxe package. An interactive album cover featuring the footprints of fans worldwide also just premiered on The Creators Project, a partnership between Intel and VICE.

Says Heap, "The album began with someone sending in the sound of striking a match for what became Lifeline in March 2011. I then dived into the most immense, intense creative 2 and a half years of my life that took me all over the planet, collaborating on so many projects with so many people and often totally spontaneously. The album is then in some ways for me grounded with fans' footprints bringing the finishing touch for the album art, as so many of them came along for the ride."

"Sparks" will be available in four formats - a standard edition, a double-disc edition with instrumental versions of all tracks, 12 inch vinyl and the super deluxe; super deluxe packaging will contain 12 individual data discs, 14 HD music videos, plus videos documenting the making of each song and the entire album, a double 10" vinyl album, a special deck of playing cards which unlock exclusive web content and a 120 page coffee-table-style book telling the story of "Sparks" along with the special ticket of blended items that allows access to sound-checks on the next tour.

While working on "Sparks," Heap turned songs into projects and projects into songs, to bring her out of her studio and 'let life in' rather than postponing things until her album was done. This fresh approach found Imogen collaborating with everyone from her fans to unsuspecting passers-by, gardeners to filmmakers, scientists to newspaper journalists and brings us her most diverse and daring body of work to date. From the River Thames (You Know Where To Find Me) to 5000 feet up in the Himalayas (Climb to Sakteng, Cycle Song), from her local community garden (Neglected Space) to 6 weeks in the Chinese metropolis of Hangzhou (Xizi She Knows), Heap was soaking it up, writing, developing, recording and producing. Sounds of a dishwasher door to a Bhutanese dranyen, the voice of a crumbling wall to 700 fans' becoming a spoken word chorus. One of Heap's projects include her brilliant Mi.Mu Gloves, developed over this album period with an incredible team of scientists, engineers, and artists (Me The Machine) and dabbled in generative and reactive music with music app developers RJDJ (Run-Time) connected to a jogging app. From the deeply personal love songs Propeller Seeds and Entanglement to the crowd sourced response to the Sendai earthquake (Lifeline), her trademark honesty runs through the album.

One of the songs will only be finished once she's dead! The Listening Chair whizzes us through her first 35 years in 5 minutes and will be added to every 7 years with another minute of a cappella song!

Heap's last album Ellipse earned her a Grammy and Ivor Novello award. This summer marks the release of Sparks, her fifth (including Frou Frou's album Details) and most ambitious album to date. Sparks' songs have taken Imogen all over the world from her North East London home studio to the Himalayas via China. This year Imogen is the guest artist-curator for the iconic London Roundhouse venue's new music festival Reverb. The eagerly awaited Sparks world tour will begin at Reverb with an extra special show in August 2014, however the rest of the tour is slightly delayed to May 2015 as Imogen will be a mum come November!

To follow more news from Heap herself, her much loved vBlogs are back. You can watch them here (YouTube.com/imogenheap) or sign up to her mailing list (http://imogenheap.fanbridge.com) to never miss a beat from the Heap.

MINOT Premieres Stream of Debut Album "Equal / Opposite" at Wondering Sound

Stream "Equal / Opposite" from MINOT exclusively @ WonderingSound.com

"Pairing the complexity of Tool with the lean, direct playing of early Dischord post-hardcore, Equal/Opposite is an album full of meticulously-mapped songs that reveal new crevices and corners every minute." - Wondering Sound

Every time they plug in, MINOT delivers unnervingly intense instrumental rock designed to flip the dance-switch in the listener’s brain with a platinum sledgehammer. MINOT’s style is deceptively complex: livid post-punk energy roils beneath a surface of cooly understated psychedelic instrumental composition. Their music is immediately familiar, yet they’re a singularity in the world of post-rock. MINOT(pronounced “MY-not”) has very little to do with those ubiquitous reverb-soaked crescendo-rock bands; they don’t borrow those sounds, nor do they dwell in melancholy themes.

They are a bundle of contradictions: dark, but up-tempo; heavy, but danceable; aggressive, but patient. Their style has been shaped by experimental bands on the fringe of rock music, like Turing Machine, The Psychic Paramount, The Paper Chase and Future Of The Left. These influences brought the three members to an interesting musical intersection. MINOT puts experimentalism and fury back into instrumental rock.

Guitarist/midi-programmer Matthew Solberg, formerly of From Monument To Masses (Dim Mak Records), began writing the music that would become MINOT shortly before FMTM broke up in 2010. He and drummer Shannon Corr had played together for years in the San Francisco Bay Area noise rock band TURKS as a rhythm section and it was that dynamic which largely defined the way they would proceed in 2011 with MINOT. Solberg’s guitar playing shunted into Corr’s drumming the way a bass guitar would, which allowed bassist Ben Thorne to explore a more unconventional space. Thorne had played for years in Low Red Land (Thinker Thought Records) and years later MINOT would be fortunate enough to share his skills with San Francisco’s Tartufi (Southern UK), a band with whom he still plays. His basslines throttle uncannily through roots and melodies alike. Corr’s drumming burns tirelessly and almost mechanically, invoking memories of Jerry Fuchs. Solberg has left most of his pretty melodic arpeggios behind, opting for jagged, biting riffs that shudder with strange effects and hummingbird-quick strumming.

MINOT move through their paces like veterans. From playing crazily energetic shows all over the West Coast in service of last year’s debut EP and 7", to producing their new LP with Robert Cheek at Red Room in Seattle, they are making every move count. The Mylene Sheath (Caspian, Pelican, Junius, Aeges) will release the band’s first full-length LP on July 1, 2014.

Yelle shares new song, "Bouquet Final"

Yelle shares new song, "Bouquet Final"

New album & North American tour this fall

Lyric Video: Yelle - "Bouquet Final"
 http://youtu.be/9wvhqdyi8xk

Since 2007, French electro-popper Yelle has risen to be a leading lady in the world of European pop music.

With a keen interest in fashion and feel for popular culture, she's been able to take her quirky sound from her French roots to the world at large, playing some of the biggest festivals and farthest flung cities.

It is hard to think of another current artist who has managed to go global, the way Yelle has. Having already released two albums - Pop Up and Safari Disco Club - and performed countless live shows around the world, all the while singing in her native French language. Yelle's beautifully melodic compositions translate regardless if fans have any idea what she is actually singing about.

"I don't know what you mean but it means a lot to me," the catch phrase from her 2013 song "L'Amour Parfait," is quite the perfect summary for Yelle who has that certain "je ne sais quoi" you won't be able to escape.

2014 will see her return with a third album, which she's recently been giving fans a glimpse of at select shows and festivals. Her yet to be announced new album is due for release this fall on Dr. Luke's Kemosabe Records. Listen to a song from it now, "Bouquet Final.

IRON REAGAN to Release Tyranny of Will This September on Relapse Records

"The finest crossover band in recent history."
-Decibel-

"[Iron Reagan] nail the punk and hardcore divide with a thrashy attitude..."-Invisible Oranges-

"It thrashes, it rips, it roars."
-MetalSucks-

"A circle pit soundtrack for the ages"
-Revolver-
IRON REAGAN's Relapse debut The Tyranny Of Will is a 24 song wrecking ball of hardcore- punk/thrash fury.  The album was recorded with guitarist Phil Hall at Blaze of Torment Studios in Richmond, VA and self-produced plus it was mixed by Converge's Kurt Ballou.  Today the band has confirmed a September 16th release date for North America, (Sept 15 (UK/World), Sept 12th (Germany/Benelux/World).  The album artwork and track listing have been revealed today as well.  The cover art was doneAlexis Maybree AKA NevaSafe.

Fronted by the venomously lyrical Tony Foresta (Municipal Waste), on paper IRON REAGAN is a Richmond, Virginia super group (the band also features Phil Hall of Municipal Waste, Cannabis Corpse, etc. as well as Ryan Parrish formerly of Darkest Hour together with members of Mammoth Grinder).

Tony Foresta commented on the new album:
