REBECCA RIPPY RETURNS WITH TELLING STORIES

Charlotte, NC—On her new album, Telling Stories, North Carolina based Americana singer/songwriter Rebecca Rippy has assembled a collection of what she considers to be her most personal material to date. The follow up to Secrets, her 2008 debut, Telling Stories features songs with an eclectic backdrop of Americana and folk instrumentation--acoustic guitars, cello, hand and kit drum percussion, bass, and high lonesome guitars. The album was produced by Rippy along with longtime friend and colleague Jamie Hoover (Spongetones, Don Dixon).

Rippy’s stellar songwriting shines through most of the disc, with songs about family, those that have gone before and those who follow after, of lives lived and of roads traveled. “It’s a compelling collection of tracks which seem to resonate with everyday life,” says Rippy. “It’s also about the trials of walking the sod of this earth, all the while inhaling the joys, sorrows, disappointments and gentle graces that shape our paths.”

About Rebecca Rippy
Rebecca Rippy started out by singing gospel music in the mountains of East Tennessee. Afterward, barely out of high school, she took off for a three-month tour of Europe, where she found a fertile community of songwriters and performers that helped shape her multi-faceted musical tastes and style of songwriting. With a beautiful flair for harmony, Rippy has become a featured background vocalist for others in addition to being a featured singer/songwriter herself.

Listening to Rippy’s music, it’s easy to hear that she is an artist playing for the sheer love of it, expressing herself fully and authentically, without concern for what’s trendy or hip. Whether singing heartfelt, folk-influenced ballads or gritty rockers, Rippy sings with sincerity and an emotional intensity that sets her apart from the crowd, and the sheer quality of her songs herald her arrival as a significant songwriting talent. What is striking is the simultaneous power and intimacy of her voice -- transforming from a whisper to a bluesy, earthy roar, over a propulsive rhythm that suggests bluegrass, but also with hints of blues, folk and country. In other words, it’s pure Americana.

Rippy has become a regular performer at such prestigious songwriter venues as the Bluebird Café in Nashville, and at the Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte, North Carolina. She and her band have shared the stage with acts such as REM producer Don Dixon, Lucy Kaplansky, Tony Rice Unit, Donna the Buffalo, Jim Lauderdale, Bill Mallonee and the Vigilantes of Love, John Cowan, Rhonda Vincent and Old Crow Medicine Show to name a few.
