MARIACHI EL BRONX RELEASE DEBUT CD, PLAY US DATES WITH THE KILLERS

MARIACHI EL BRONX, the border-bending reincarnation of LA punk fixtures The Bronx, announced the release of their self-titled debut today on Swami Records. Mariachi El Bronx is an offering of new songs in the grand tradition of Mexican folk music, hallmarked by elements of guitarron and trumpet. The band also announced that they will be performing as main support for The Killers on five dates of their upcoming U.S. tour, beginning on September 15th in Irvine, CA at Bren Event Center.

The new record, produced by Jon Avilla, sees the original Bronx lineup joined by a renowned string quartet. The guitarron, which imparts to the music much of its genuine mariachi flavor, is provided by Vincent Hidalgo, the son of Los Lobos' David Hidalgo.

The brand-new project has already attracted the attention of the press, with a glowing review coming from the ever-influential NME, saying "it's with a giant hug and a shot of tequila that we welcome mariachi into our lives." Getting to the core of the band's vision, they state "...Going acoustic and dressing in black charro outfits is probably the punkest move they could have taken; El Bronx negotiate in exactly the same way at The Bronx - they don't. They fear nothing, explore everything and create from the rawest of emotion..." In many ways an homage to the band's beloved home city of Los Angeles, Mariachi El Bronx sends the message that "LA has not one but two beating hearts;" now there is a Bronx-esque manifestation to represent each of them.
