Rachel, The Red Violin and Rachmaninoff (March 20-22) at the Jacksonville Symphony

(Jacksonville, Fla. March 11, 2008) The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra welcomes violinist Rachel Barton Pine to the stage for three performances, titled “Rachel and The Red Violin” on Thursday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m., Friday March 21 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 22 at 8 p.m. on the Fidelity National Financial Masterworks Series.

Ms. Barton Pine is featured in music to the Oscar-winning and enchanting film score, Corigliano’s The Red Violin: Chaconne, as well as Ravel’s fiery showpiece, Tzigane. JSO Music Director Fabio Mechetti, who considers Ms. Barton Pine “one of the brightest stars in the galaxy of young violinists,” conducts the concert. The program also includes Rachmaninoff’s romantic and majestic Symphony No. 2, which has been popularized by songwriters such as Barry Manilow and Eric Carmen.

The concert weekend is sponsored by Brooks Rehabilitation. For tickets and information, call the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Box Office at (904) 354-5547, toll free (877) 662-6731, or log on to jaxsymphony.org. Ticket prices are $25, $30, $40, $55 and $65.

Before the Saturday March 22 performance, Rachel Barton Pine will appear and perform at a special pre-concert event: “Ladies in Red Night” at Plaza III – The Steakhouse, located in the Hyatt Regency Riverfront. She will be joined by JSO concertmaster Philip Pan, who has performed with Rachel at the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival. They both share common interests in styles of non-classical performances, so guests might hear music of Led Zeppelin or Mark O’Connor. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Ladies’ attire is red. Admission is free with concert ticket. Cash bar and complimentary appetizers are included.
