The Black Angels are proud to announce the release of their second record on Light in the Attic Records. Entitled, "Directions to See a Ghost," the record was produced by the band along with "Passover" producer Erik Wofford and will be released on May 13, 2008.
Bathed in haunting psychedelic, opiated chiaroscuro, the songs on "Directions to See a Ghost" are both hypnotic and driving at the same time. Dynamics are essential to the proceedings -- drums pound and crescendos explode and then give way as the songs fall back into a shadowy calm and then burst anew as the distant, ominous melodies skim the surface and then plunge into depths of reverb and darkness. The album is produced with big sounds and shines with a clarity and pointedness where other bands might hide behind fuzz and dementia.
"Directions to See a Ghost" is the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut, "Passover." Among the many great reviews it received, "Uncut" in the UK gave the record four stars out of five and gushed, "Where others play at gloom, The Black Angels add layers of churning, murky groove to create a cinematic sense of mounting fear...the result is startling," while "Spin" said, "No light shines at the end of their torture tunnel, no morning will redeem their deep midnight of the soul."
