LOS ANGELES, CA – March 13, 2008 – NextAid (www.nextaid.org), a Los Angeles-based nonprofit humanitarian organization, returns to the 23rd annual Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC) building on its mission to expand awareness of the AIDS orphan pandemic. This year NextAid is joining forces with The Mobile Master List (MML) and The Outloud Agency Group to promote Party With A Purpose (www.themml.com/partywithapurpose), which encompasses numerous socially-conscious events, such as LemonAID and MIAMBIENT. WMC 2008 runs from Tuesday, March 25, 2008 to Sunday March 30, 2008 throughout South Beach and downtown Miami Beach. For more information on the conference, please visit www.wmcon.com and www.nextaid.org/miami2008.htm.
Uniting the world of electronic music while helping impoverished children in Africa, NextAid utilizes the momentum of the dance music community to produce music benefits and awareness-raising activities. Its pilot project, the building of a children’s center in Dennilton, South Africa is on its way to completion. Launched in the summer of 2005 with a team headed by Joseph Kennedy, a world-renowned eco-architect, NextAid has completed ten buildings, trained local builders in eco-friendly construction techniques and helped secure funding for small business development.
NextAid is the only organization founded in the electronic music community that addresses the AIDS crisis in Africa, which makes it truly unique. NextAid channels the positive energy from the dance floor all the way to Africa. Because of this, NextAid has received incredible support over the years from major artists and industry leaders including Crobar NYC, Cielo, Remix Magazine, AM Only, GiantStep, Ableton, NiteVibe, Colette, Miguel Migs, Louie Vega and many more.
A few of NextAid’s biggest supporters include DJ Dan, DubSpot and OM Records, each of whom has “adopted” a structure at the children’s center that is slated for construction this year. DJ Dan is committed to funding the Art Room of the Main Center, and has donated a 5,000 piece record collection to NextAid to auction off. DubSpot is funding a portion of the playground and has also sponsored the powerful public service announcement that NextAid recently released. The video demonstrates the level of artist support for the cause and the gravity of the orphan pandemic while showcasing the pilot project in South Africa. It can be viewed online on the website or on YouTube. http://nextaid.org/NEXTAIDPSA.html
Last year, OM Records donated funds to “adopt” the Youth Office and is now partnering with NextAid on a ground-breaking music project called Sekunjalo: The Time Has Come, uniting talented African musicians with their Western counterparts. The project launches this spring with a series of digital downloads, ultimately culminating in an album. All proceeds will towards NextAid’s projects in Africa. OM Records kicked off its support for NextAid in 2005 with the release of REBOOT: Notes for the Next Generation, a compilation of tracks donated mostly by the record label’s artists.
Party With A Purpose was created for this WMC to unite promoters already involved with socially conscious events or benefits and to provide mutual support while encouraging other promoters to add a social or charitable aspect to their parties. This campaign was also created to encourage an environmental way to produce and promote events. Promoters are asked to make a pledge to produce “greener” events through printing no or less flyers, using recycled paper for their printed materials, using energy efficient lighting, buying carbon credits to offset their artists’ travel, encouraging car-pooling, and more.
Donations through the Party With A Purpose events will go towards NextAid’s projects as well as to other selected beneficiaries including Miami-based CHARLEE (foster children programs) and Rainforest Action Network. Event organizers can choose any nonprofit to which they wish to contribute for a minimum donation of $250.I In exchange, they receive increased promotion through eco-friendly Mobile Master List.
