Listen To Arp's "Gravity" (Peaking Lights Remix)

LISTEN TO ARP'S "GRAVITY" (PEAKING LIGHTS REMIX)

"GRAVITY" (FOR CHARLEMAGNE PALESTINE) 12" OUT NOVEMBER 5TH;
NEW ALBUM, MORE, OUT NOW ON SMALLTOWN SUPERSOUND
Last month, Arp (aka Alexis Georgopoulos) released his new album, MORE, on Smalltown Supersound.MORE reveals an impressive grasp of style and vision, melding bedroom art-pop with avant-garde composition to create a world of heady atmospherics and melodic song craft over its concentrated 46 minute arc. In line with the record, album track "Gravity" (For Charlemagne Palestine), sheds the analog synths and filters that characterized Arp's previous solo album, The Soft Wave, in favor of something more tactile and immediate - namely a small arsenal of pianos, cello and noise guitar. It features an ascending pillar of sound, ceaselessly spiraling ever and ever up, never reaching its destination. To those familiar withFRKWYS 3 [RVNG Intl], Arp's collaborative album with Anthony Moore, this may be more remindful of that album's feel.

The album version of "Gravity" (For Charlemagne Palestine) and several remixes by artists bridging the avant-garde electronic and leftfield club worlds - No UFOs, Gavin Russom, Masks, and Peaking Lights -- will be available as a 12" on November 5th. No UFOs take on "Gravity" reduces the original into a Harmonia/Neu!-like hypnotizer, connecting the dots between 70s Germany and 70s NYC Minimalism.Gavin Russom provides a characteristically, mystical take, an extended workout bridging his interest in Berlin School extensions and Brazilian-informed percussion workouts. Newcomers Masks provide the most club-worthy remix, adding a bit of Detroit and Chicago grit to their take on Basic Channel-era minimal techno. Meanwhile, Peaking Lights' rework evokes a Balearic take on vintage 80's Yellow Magic Orchestra -- a neon-lit journey through a teenage mall, on acid.

Arp plays the Knitting Factory in New York on Wednesday, October 16th as part of CMJ.
