SF's Social Studies announce new single, bring enchanting pop to East Coast in November

Social Studies founding members Natalia Rogovin and Michael Jirkovsky lead a rotating cast of characters with a sound that tempers the Fiery Furnaces with the love of pure pop songwriting, or arms the Decemberists with Casiotones instead of organs. Somehow, they drop pop gems that are somehow both raw and gentle at the same time.

With a new full length slated for release in 2010, "The Hourglass" single features the San Francisco band's first new tracks since 2006 - the upbeat "Time Bandit" and the yearning "We Choose Our Own Adventures." Already sharing the stage with the likes of Dungen, The Pipettes, The Long Blondes, and The Handsome Furs, Social Studies hits the East Coast for their first time ever this November, setting the stage for their 2010 full length, 'Wind-Up Wooden Heart.'

"[They] skillfully skirt the line between pop and the cerebral. Their music is catchy and smart... Casio driven melodies give way to raw guitar riffs that are pure rock n' roll. Add to that lyrics rooted in academia and you've got a full blown nerd pop-fest to tantalize your neurons." - 7X7 Magazine

"Indie Rock Perfection." - SF Chronicle

"Social Studies is one of those acts that stuffs enough ideas for three songs into one track, shifting gears repeatedly until your head is spinning and your toes are tapping." - SF Weekly
