In support of his upcoming solo album, The Green Sparrow, Mike Gordon will embark on a headlining club tour beginning August 3rd in Philadelphia, PA. The 20 plus date tour will include select festivals and will coincide with the release of his new album out August 5th on Rounder Records. Gordon and his band will play a special intimate warm-up show at The Iron Horse in Northampton, MA on June 30th. Also of special note is the September 4th show in Chicago, IL at The Park West, which will feature multiple musicians and performance artists, all to be announced shortly.
A rewarding year and a half of work went into The Green Sparrow. An artist known for his endless creativity and touring stamina, Gordon took 2007 off from touring and dedicated his time to writing this record. His efforts yielded a vibrant new solo album full of accessible songs and unmistakable
creations of Gordon's playfully idiosyncratic musical mind. Gordon worked mainly at his home studio in Vermont, but also forayed to New York's Electric Lady Studios for additional recording and Trey Anastasio's rural Vermont studio, The Barn, for mixing.
The Green Sparrow features special guests Phish's Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell, Bill Kreutzmann (The Grateful Dead), Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones), Ivan Neville and horn players from Antibalas.
For his touring band, Gordon auditioned a myriad of musicians over the past six months. The five-piece includes longtime collaborator Scott Murawski on guitar, Vermonters Craig Myers on percussion and Tom Cleary on keyboards and Brooklyn drummer Todd Isler.
