“Country-dusted…a tonic of sass and sugar with foot-stomping rhythms.” —Los Angeles Times

“Swagger, charm, and surely wide appeal.”—Mail on Sunday

Cigarettes & Truckstops, the highly anticipated follow-up album from critically acclaimed Nashville-based artist Lindi Ortega, is available now on Last Gang Records. Ortega’s JUNO award-nominated debut album, Little Red Boots, gathered praise from USA Today who declared the debut, “radiates rowdy, rootsy Americana” and Time Out New York who described it as, “a clutch of instantly memorable tunes that show tenderness and sass at once.” The new release has already garnered attention from Daytrotter and No Depression who calls it “stunningly mature, yet engagingly accessible.” Additionally, Amazon.com is currently featuring Ortega as an “Artist on the Rise” and the album is streaming at MSN Music and AOL Spinner. To support the release, Ortega will tour with Social Distortion this fall.

Cigarettes & Truckstops was largely inspired by Ortega’s move to Nashville from her hometown, Toronto, which brought her closer to the origins of many of her influences, including Hank Williams. By reading a biography of Williams, Ortega discovered his mentor Rufus “Tee-Tot” Payne, the street performer who taught Williams to play guitar. This sparked Ortega’s interest in the influence of blues on early country—a fascination that comes through strongly on the record. Ortega brought on praised producer and T-Bone Burnett musician Colin Linden (O Brother Where Art Thou, Lucinda Williams, Bruce Cockburn) for the project when she found that he shared her interest in blues and the roots of country music.

Ortega has toured extensively in the past year, opening for acts like Social Distortion, Dierks Bentley, Burton Cummings, and James Vincent McMorrow. Of her live performance, the Chicago Sun Times notes, “[her] ebullient personality and powerful voice make for a striking presence,” while The Pittsburgh Tribune Review adds, “ [she] stands out.” See reverse for tour dates. Ortega partnered with CMT.com and CMT Mobile to premiere her latest music video for the song “Black Fly,” available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Csc21rcF6E.
