XIBALBA: Tour With Backtrack, Harness Underway

Addicted to punishing their audiences in-person, road warriors XIBALBA’s latest trek is underway tonight in Pensacola, Florida.

Following a slew of seemingly endless tour dates this year, including the recent massive North American tour with Alpha & Omega and Power Trip, for the next three weeks SoCal hardcore outfit XIBALBA will tear through the country alongside Santa Barbara-based Harness and Long Island kingpins Backtrack.

XIBALBA devastated audiences with their second LP, Hasta La Muerte, via Southern Lord this Summer, the album taking the band’s unstoppable down-tuned breakdown power and dynamic grooves to iniquitous new dimensions. Recorded by Taylor Young (of labelmates Nails), the album also features additional guitar Greg Anderson (sunn 0))), Goatsnake, Southern Lord Recordings) on two songs.

Brooklyn Vegan is streaming all of Hasta La Muerte RIGHT HERE.

"...Xibalba's absolutely furious vocals and mammoth, down-tuned hardcore stylings set them apart from the pack, making this record unique from the legions of flat-billed, Nike-clad, camo-short-wearing crews out there." - BrooklynVegan

"...when they follow the conventions and motions of both hardcore and doom - the other genre they do well-- the blend can be exhilarating... Throughout, the heavy tone of the guitars mixes with the sucker punches of the hardcore - it's a huge-sounding combo." - Pitchfork

"This, of course, is not to say that the new record isn’t heavy -- it’s fucking Jabba the Hutt... Things are slower. They burn deeper. They continue to sound like they were recorded in a dark pit with only rats for company. 4.5/5" - Decoy Music

"...with rough vocals, angry glazed guitars, stop-start rhythms, and a sense of everything corroding by inches, with the impact of a rusty evil mecha that's still alive and out to destroy everything. 4/5" - All Music Guide

"Instead of ripping off any other band who tried to combine the likes of metal and hardcore, Xibalba have carefully constructed a sound for themselves that raises the bar of 'heavy' to an all new, approaching the unbearable, weight – in the best possible fashion." - Beatroute

"Xibalba use their doom death influenced hardcore as a slow-motion jackhammer that ensures the listener is left with no doubt that hardcore isn't all about youth-crew shout-alongs!" - Nocturnal Cult

"As heavy as they are, Xibalba is oddly inspiring, a band that has the uncanny ability to create soundscapes, contemplative ones at that, precisely because of the slow, deliberate way it's performed. 5/5" - Sea of Tranquility
