YARDS: ON TOUR!

"The side project of Southerly's Krist Krueger, Yards essays expansive, elegant post-rock in the vein of genre standard-bearers such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Rachel's. He achieves a panoramic, orchestral grandeur that avoids the sometimes sentimental bombast of some others in this realm, like Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Rós."
– Dave Segal / The Stranger

"Kristallnacht"—the song—is a slowly lurching, initially pretty piece of music that builds dense momentum out of repeated phrases. It achieves an ominousness through steadily building drones, as its whirring, brushed drums and ice-cool piano get buried under thick layers of tone. The music sounds like it's reaching for majesty, but also a bit of horror; juxtaposed with the truly ugly associations of the song's title and the video, the intended effect is unclear—that is, until the video ends with a very long hold on an image of a boy with his hands up in surrender, a white flag to the nastiness that's preceded it, perhaps."
- Ned Lannamann / Portland Mercury

MORE ABOUT YARDS:
"A cauldron of methodical yet deeply moving instrumental rock that combines forlorn piano motifs with gradually intensifying, swirling drones and portentous orchestral swells." writes the Seattle Stranger of the release that initially spurred Yards, Southerly's “Champion of The Noisy Negativists”. Though not entirely instrumental, Yards directs its focus on a wider range of compositional concepts. Creating in one track what could be a dark contrasting club hit to a simplistic conceptual piece based on select subject matter.

Yards was founded as a project to exist outside of conventional musical boundaries. To ease the restrictions inherent with most bands and fully pursue ideas based on each piece being an individual release, unique unto itself. The project identifies more with film as the perfect medium to properly and fully represent an idea versus exclusively creating soundscapes.
