LA’S FINEST INDIE BAND THE WORLD RECORD ANNOUNCES FIRST NATIONAL TOUR

TOUR KICKS OFF ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2012 IN
SAN LUIS OBISPO (BOO BOO RECORDS) AND SAN FRANCISCO (THE KNOCKOUT)

Indie-rock band The World Record, are celebrating the release of their second album, Freeway Special, by announcing their first national tour. They are kicking off their first national tour in San Luis Obispo, CA and San Francisco, CA on October 22, 2012 with two shows in one day! Receiving critical praise from the likes of L.A. TimesLAistYou Ain’t No Picasso and others, The World Record have rarely ventured outside of Southern California. Now, Freeway Specialis about to deliver the band to a much wider national audience with a tour that hits Portland, San Francisco, Austin, Chicago and more! Please see full list of tour dates below.

With influences ranging from bands like The Records, The dB’s, Blue Öyster Cult, and Big Star, The World Record have crafted their own take on rock that has long made them a favorite in the Los Angeles music scene. Six years ago they released Guitars Forever on Tallboy Records, where it landed on CMJ’s chart at #107. The Los Angeles Times raved: “The band offers the instant-favorite choruses and bouncing rock rhythms favored by acts ranging from Big Star to Fountains of Wayne, with a hearty helping of sincere lyricism”. Aquarium Drunkard said: "Sure, name checking a band as the West Coast heir apparent to Big Star is a bold statement, brave in fact, but that’s exactly how I’ve been hailing The World Record of late." The track, "We're #1" made appearances in several TV shows including Gossip GirlHow I Met Your Mother and Fox’s New Girl.

Their sophomore double-LP Freeway Special is available now through Squid vs Whale label and can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, and independent record stores across the country. The World Record’s first album since 2006, is a collection of songs that speaks to a time when it was important to make a lasting impression. Buzzbands raved: “Every time you hear the World Record play or revisit their muscular but underdressed album from four years ago, ‘Guitars Forever,’ you’re reminded of the music’s staying power. Singer-guitarist Andy Creighton is as faithful and persistent as he is prolific. ‘Freeway Special’ is a double-LP with a staggering 17 tracks, most of which contain guitar pop’s three major food groups: crackling licks, chunky rhythms and relentlessly catchy choruses.” Absolutepunk.net also said, “Vocalist Creighton has a vocal timbre that is easily digestible and even harder to dislike. Backed by an air-tight rhythm section and seasoned session players, the disc is definitely a bellwether in the California roots-rock scene. It honestly doesn't get much better than this.”
