“A San Diego Four-piece with a mighty head of steam building
up around them, Transfer have the sound of a band who could blast through into
festival-conquering greatness. Without question, ones to watch”
The Sunday Times
January 4, 2012 – After a wildly successful
European tour last October/November, TRANSFER will return to
North America in early 2012 for a national tour as support to Kaiser
Chiefs. The trek will kick off on March 6th in
Boston, MA at the House Of Blues (Full US Tour Dates Listed Below). TRANSFER will
also be quite visible at this year’s SXSW conference with several performances
in the works. Full details on those shows will be announced in the coming
weeks.
San Diego based band TRANSFER released
their debut album, Future Selves on October 11th via
Cool Green Recordings. Within a short period of time, the band has been
earning high praise on both sides of the Atlantic; including picking up two
awards at the San Diego Music Awards. Since finishing the recording of Future
Selves, the four-piece has supported The Killers and White
Lies, and toured the UK with standout festival shows in Hard Rock Calling
at Hyde Park, Hop Farm and T In The Park. Amidst this, they recorded their UK
TV debut for Live From Abbey Road, in the process picking up just
about the greatest fan any new band could dream of when none other than Sir Paul
McCartney popped by to say hello.
Future Selves is both expansive and
ambitious: psychedelic riffs burn with a poppy energy on “Losing Composure” and
“Like It Used To Be”; Brian Wilson-style harmonies arrive swathed in chiming
guitars and pianos on “Take Your Medicine” and the soulful “Get Some Rest”; the
band even experiment with soaring prog rock on “Enojado”. Future
Selves' over-arching mood is of an epic album brimming with festival
anthems and hefty rock riffola.
The band take their cues from what they describe as the
"five basic food groups" of rock'n'roll: The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led
Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and The Stones, drawing further inspiration from the
likes of My Morning Jacket, The Flaming Lips and Arcade Fire. "We
love bands with big dynamics and big songs," says guitarist/vocalist
Matthew Molarius. "Experimenting with songwriting, using a variety of
instrumentation, Incorporating cellos, strings and horns, as well as huge,
ballsy blues and heavy soul."
Future Selves is an epic debut. Bound
with anthemic choruses, psychedelic guitars and skewed pop hooks, TRANSFER’s is
a sound that clips stadium-sized riffs to anthemic lyricism. It's little wonder
Q recently tipped them as the band most likely to emerge from America's indie
hinterlands.
TRANSFER are:
Jason Cardenas (guitar, vocals), Matthew Molarius
(vocals, guitar), Shaun Cornell (bass), Andy Ridley (drums)
