THE BOXER REBELLION TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE "THE RUNNER" ON JUNE 27 (EXPLICIT) VIDEO DIRECTED BY OSCAR-SHORTLISTED DUO DARKFIBRE NOW ONLINE THE JOY FORMIDABLE REMIX OF "THE RUNNER" NOW AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD
London's The Boxer Rebellion announce the release of their second single "The Runner," taken from this year's Ethan Johns-produced epic The Cold Still. The single is packaged with a stunning music video directed by DarkFibre (Ishbel Whittaker and Marc Hawker) and an electro-rock remix by hotly-tipped Welsh trio The Joy Formidable.
The Oscar short-listed DarkFibre are causing a storm in the commercials and music video world. Their recent film for Renault, starring Dita Von Teese, was banned on daytime TV, while their video campaigns for Amnesty International are nothing short of seminal and are a must-watch. As fans of The Boxer Rebellion, they jumped at the chance to collaborate with the band and turn "The Runner" into a visually and emotionally engaging mini-masterpiece. "We took the cornerstone idea of honesty and its fragility from the lyrics and created a narrative that would be both completely surprising and utterly compelling," says co-director Ishbel Whittaker. "We wanted to make something that was playful and naughty but also profound, raw and honest."

The Boxer Rebellion and The Joy Formidable are not strangers to one another. Having crossed paths at many a festival, it was only natural that a collaboration would soon be in the works. The Joy Formidable's deep, dark remix of "The Runner" is a thumping, fast-paced offering, delivering a sonic playground of furious drums, fat bass lines and electo wails in which Nathan Nicholson's vocals float about fittingly.

Released on February 1, 2011, and created in conjunction with Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne), The Cold Still, one of FILTER Magazine's "20 Most Anticipated Albums of 2011," is an exercise in master class performances and sophisticated songwriting from a band that embodies the very definition of "independent." Regarded by Billboard Magazine as an "epic, effortless offering from a quartet dead set on perfecting their pop-rock craft," The Cold Still is continuing to captivate music fans around the world. Monumental and intimate in equal measure, it is a breathtaking album bristling with tense passion, giant riffs and heartrending lyrics, all with an effortless grace that has become The Boxer Rebellion's trademark.
The Joy Formidable recently released their new album, The Big Roar, on March 15 via Canvasback/Atlantic Records. The Big Roar comes two years after their 2009 debut, A Balloon Called Moaning, which SPIN Magazine named one of the "10 Best Records You Might Have Missed in 2010." Acclaim on The Big Roar comes from the likes of NME praising its "gutsy, chest-swelling brilliance."
