Wray Streams Critically Acclaimed s/t Debut on BlackBook!

Wray’s Critically Acclaimed s/t Debut

Streaming on BlackBook

Summer/Fall Tour with Man or Astro-man? Kicks Off Today

“If you’re still looking for an indie rock record to soundtrack your summer, seek no more.” – BlackBook

The band’s members hail from Birmingham, Ala., though they sound about as rooted in downtown Los Angeles, the Thames Valley of England and the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.” – New York Times

“It’s a unique mélange of genres, melding beach rock breeziness with the type of driving, slowly evolving aesthetic that marked bands like My Bloody Valentine.” –Noisey

“Wray are woozier and more majestic, with gently-gliding vocal melodies and a steadily-chugging rhythm that owes more to krautrock than it does punk or garage.” – Wondering Sound

“The Alabama natives have successfully merged the energy and appeal of rock music with the instrumentals and essence of shoegaze, creating “power-gaze.”” – Popstache

Wray is David Brown, Blake Wimberly, and David Swatzell. Though the band is new to the scene, the members’ involvement in the music community starts over a decade ago. The trio has been involved with bands Last Flight In,ComradeNightmare Waterfall, and a handful of other projects you might not have had the chance to see if “punk rock” just isn’t your scene. But this project is something you don’t want to miss.

Wray’s self-titled debut is released today, July 15th, via Communicating Vessels. It was recorded in their hometown of Birmingham, Alabama at Ol Elgante Studio. With mastermind engineer Daniel Farris (Man Or Astro-man?, St. Vincent, Polyphonic Spree, Verbena) at the helm, they managed to capture the atmospheric beauty that comes with every live show they play.

The album is streaming on BlackBook, which called the debut effort “ambitious.” This summer and fall, Wray will be touring the United States with surf rock legends Man or Astro-Man?
