British Rock Band Young Rebel Set's US Debut Crocodile Due September 23 on New West

NEW WEST RECORDS TO RELEASE ROUSING BRITISH
FOLK-ROCK BAND YOUNG REBEL SET'S SOPHOMORE
ALBUM, CROCODILE, ON SEPTEMBER 23

FIRST-EVER U.S. TOUR PLANNED FOR OCTOBER

LOS ANGELES, CA, July 10, 2014 - A collision of rollicking folk-rock, blue-eyed soul and jaunty '90s Britpop, New West Records is thrilled to introduce British rockers Young Rebel Set's acclaimed sophomore album, Crocodile, to American audiences onSeptember 23. The 11-track LP was recorded in Glasgow at Chem 19 Studios with producer Paul Savage, best known for his studio work with Mogwai, Franz Ferdinandand Arab Strap, and also as the former drummer of The Delgados. The band will cross the pond for the very first time for a West Coast tour this October with shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.

Described as a "folk-inspired record which owes more to Richard Ashcroft that it does Mumford & Sons" by Steve Lamacq of BBC 6Music and "how Bruce Springsteen might have sounded had he been raised in the Middlesbrough area" by Q, Young Rebel Set's Crocodile marks the band's first U.S. release and builds off their earthy folk-guitar sound into something more expansive and diverse.

While identifiably a Young Rebel Set record - sign-posted by frontman Matty Chipchase'srichly-voiced tell-all honesty, Crocodile is more inquisitive than their past releases. Listen carefully and you can hear everyone from Simon & Garfunkel (on "Tuned Transmission"); The Pogues (buried in the wonderful lament that is "The Girl From The 51") and even moments of Springsteen, The Animals and Johnny Cash (on the confessional "Unforgiven," a song about Chipchase, eschewing his new found parental responsibilities and disappearing "on a three day bender." "The Lash Of The Whip" is a '60s spy thriller style romp, with a video that pays tribute to "Trainspotting" (watch below), while the cocooned moment in time that is "Berlin Nights" is a brittle snapshot of infidelity.

Formed in 2008, and informed early on by Oasis and The Verve (Chipchase: "Oasis taught me to pick up a guitar and The Verve taught me how to stand on stage"), the now five-piece band were quickly courted by labels despite only having seven songs. They gigged as often as they could, explored Europe, found a stronghold in Germany where they sold out their first ever tour - and released a mini-album compilation of the erratically released singles they'd been putting out in the UK. Their first proper LP, Curse Our Love, followed in 2011 under the watchful eye of Ignition Records. Though recorded in a bedroom, its sparse production gave Chipchase's lyrics centre stage and painted a picture of a man, sometimes brow-beaten, but more often than not humbly determined to do the best he can. It's a mindset which has struck a chord with their fans to date.

With footholds and fans all throughout Europe, the band now has its sights set on America. New West is proud to bring you Young Rebel Set.
