A fresh new output of R&B has been hitting the airwaves
as of late, thanks to our northern neighbors across the border. Executive
producer ILLANGELO recently launched his newest collaboration
with Toronto's TALWST (pronounced "tall waist").
TALWST has already been making waves with the
debut of his first video for debut single "Peace Tonight" (watch
here) which reached over 50k+ views within the first week of its
release, and featured on a multitude of noteworthy sites including 50
Cent's "This Is 50" blog.
The debut record from TALWST, "Alien
Tentacle Sex" is out May 22, 2012 - a date
which coincides with a lunar eclipse: "I'm putting myself between
the listener and the world for a moment," he admits. The
album weaves together classic instrumentation with dreamy layers of
slow-burning seduction. With a tracklisting that boasts a luxe blend of
complex arrangements and elements of tribal African rhythms layered beneath
sinister synths and debauched lyricism. Inspired by bridging together the
foreign and familiar, the album laments the rawness of post-midnight romance -
track "I'd Die" tells a brazen tale of
lustful desperation, with searing atmospheric blends and rattling rhythm
samples, while the destitute ballad "No Stones" exposes
the emotional underbelly that threads together the album's core concept in a
signature #SoTall style.
"Woozy, sexed-up R&B" - Prefix
Magazine
"Nothing better for late-night listening than [this]
deep, faded R&B that is quickly becoming signature to Canadian singers and
producers alike." - URB Magazine
"Tracks like the addictive, passion-fuelled “Woman”
and “Peace Tonight” with its distorted spoken-word verses and incongruous,
gentle piano breaking into a softly crooned chorus that shifts the mood, even
as hard drums punctuate the track all the way through." - Okay
