From South of the Mason-Dixon Line, Holy Shakes make tight,
raw, amphetamine-rock--and it's captured perfectly on this, their spirited
debut. Built on laser-tight rhythms and fierce guitar, Holy Shakes' debut, Feast
or Famine, is a record made to mirror the band's frenetic,
captivating live performances. Like their live show, the album goes
thunderstorm: heavy on the slow, anticipatory build and quick on the
lightning-like tension break. "Plastic is Forever” booms with punchy
arrogance; “Mississippi Toes” is a revisionist Southern rock anthem. The
Arkansas-based quartet explores genres while maintaining purity and clarity of
vision--and their heavily-pedigreed members have meshed to mold an inimitable
sound, which has a familiarity yet conveys something rare and substantial that
is not to be missed.
