"The new album sounds, frankly, wonderful live;
beautiful guitars, cellos, and keys are woven together before the drum punches
you in the mouth like a baby puppy, full of love and disregard." - Village
Voice
Since releasing their new album, The Clearing,
in March on Dead Oceans,Bowerbirds have been on the
road wooing audiences and refining their adventurous, full band performance.
Yesterday, the band wrapped up their three-week European tour and will return
to the states with just enough time to take a few deep breaths before more
shows in the Midwest and Northeast. They'll hit all new towns where they
haven't previously played since the release of The Clearing, and
return to New York following their sold out show at the Bowery Ballroom this
past March. In addition to playing the Pickathon Music Festival outside
of Portland in early August, Bowerbirds will also perform at this year's Lollapalooza.
A full list of tour dates is below.
We are also pleased to announce that Bowerbirds will be
featured in the inaugural edition of a new video series being launched by Dead
Oceans. Entitled "10,000 Takes," it aims to highlight
outstanding performances by Dead Oceans' astounding artists. Producer Dan
Huiting assembled his crew and caught up with Bowerbirds at The Cedar
in Minneapolis to capture album standout track, "This Year."
While in Minneapolis, Bowerbirds also took some time out to
perform "Overcome With Light" and "Brave World"
for North Shore Sessions in conjunction with MPLS.TV.

"The Clearing is broad and ambitious,
featuring more (and richer) instrumentation and unprecedented studio
gleam." - Pitchfork
"the first thing that stands out on Bowerbirds' third
record is how vibrant it sounds. The songs contain ornate string passages and
regal horn arrangements, clacking percussion, pianos and even some buzzy guitar
distortion" - NPR's The Record
"Therein lies the core of Bowerbirds' success: the
ability to channel the simplicity of their rustic surroundings into charmingly
orchestrated folk songs." - Washington Post
"These carefully paced, pastoral campfire numbers
maintain a rustic feel despite being expertly manicured. Moore maneuvers his
lithe pipes around phrases that wind like the long road leading back to the
remote cabin he and Tacular share." - Time Out Chicago
"If you shot a film in stark sepia tones and then
turned it into a Technicolor splendor, you'd have 'The Clearing.' . . . it's
the most ambitious and evocative they've ever sounded." - Boston
Globe
"[Bowerbirds songs] project a certain understated
intensity. They also answer to a guiding sense of purpose that squeezes the
loose, pastoral harmonies a little tighter and keeps the seething outer edges
real and raw." - The Wall Street Journal
