EXTREME MINIMALIST ABSTRACT METAL TRIO GAUCHISTE ANNOUNCES DEBUT SELF-TITLED FULL LENGTH OUT JANUARY 17, 2012 VIA LITTLE BLACK CLOUD RECORDS

"I think of Gauchiste as setting a mood for an abstract form of storytelling, a kind of lighting or fog that proliferates throughout a room. It's more like horror meditations," saysTannon Penland (Loincloth), one-third of the trio Gauchiste, who are set to release their self-titled debut album on Little Black Cloud Records on January 17, 2012. The release is available digitally and physical product is limited to 100 records and 100 cds, each of which comes in its own unique, specially designed packaging.  It was mastered by James Plotkin (KhanateScorn,Lotus Eaters) who has worked with such metal heavyweights as Sunn O)))Earth, and Goslings

Says Tannon, "The idea of Gauchiste came to be out of a shared love of oppressively heavy music and abstract minimalist forms that moved us to ask the question 'How can we play with and communicate sonically the "otherness" or peripheral spaces in these worlds, that which hovers above them and around them?' We all love metal in our own way. I imagine some will hear Gauchiste as an extension of black metal, but it isn't at all. Metal in general is only a very small part of the end result."

The project began when Tannon, along with other members Tomas Phillips and Craig Hilton lived in Raleigh, NC.  "Because Tannon and I could actually see one another's apartments from our own, Gauchiste became a daily ritual, the process of which was in equal parts deadly serious and comic, which allowed us to climb into the mindset of the metal we revere," recalled Tomas.  "It's 1985, you're standing within a torch-lit bunker somewhere in Eastern Europe in front of a stage just prior to Celtic Frost taking their positions - we aimed for the sound that should be floating throughout that room. You're standing, alone, in the basement of King Diamonds' Mansion in the darkness, we attempted to locate that grittier darkness". After Tannon relocated to Richmond, VA the three continued to create together. "It was then about letting one member free associate and compose around an idea, and then passing it along to the next guy via the internet to see where it would go. If something particularly good was discovered, we would then narrow in on it and eventually meet in person to finalize a given track," said Tannon.

The result is seven sublime meditations that are as groundbreaking as they are terrifying.

Gauchiste is Tannon Penland, Tomas Phillips, and Craig Hilton.
