“Riot Fest firmly established itself in 2006 as one of the best showcases for punk and underground music in the country.” Jim Derogatis, Chicago Sun Times
Five years. What does it all mean? Five years equals 25,336 fans, over 150 bands, 946 stage dives, 4 asshole bouncers, 2632 cases of beer, 172 hours in line, 1 FBI Sting, 23 business suits and too many broken ribs. That, my friends is something.
In 2005 Mike Petryshyn started Riot Fest, creating his dream festival, the one he would want to attend. With one eye on the legendary Chicago punk scene and the other on the bands that inspire them, he started building the festival, with an ambitious multiple show/venue format despite his inexperience. He put special emphasis on reuniting influential punk and underground bands who hadn’t shared the stage in years and chicago’s rich punk history has always been a huge part of the Riot Fest roster, this year 11 bands from the area are confirmed so far.
A plethora of incredible bands are announced here, including the legendary B**thole Surfers, Naked Raygun, 88 Fingers Louie, Riverboat Gamblers, Pegboy, No Empathy, New Bomb Turks, Youth Brigade, Teenage Bottlerocket, Lower Class Brats, Teen Idols, Off With Their Heads, The Arrivals, Shot Baker, Flatfoot 56, Fear City, The Frankl Project and Anxiety High.
The B**e Surfers are well known for their long association with Chicago’s Touch and Go Records, they haven’t performed in Chicago in eons. Riot Fest also marks Naked Raygun’s triumphant return to the Metro – it is their first show at the venue they helped become a landmark since 1997.
Previously announced bands included Screeching Weasel, NOFX, Alkaline Trio, Murder City Devils, C**ck Sparrer and the Dead Milkmen.
