Now in its third year, Operation Swan Dive, a festival of skydiving and music, is set to jump on August 15th and 16th at SkyDive Pepperell in Pepperell, MA. Again, the event, which raised $110,000 the past two years, will benefit Lyrics for Life, a cancer charity founded by Sister Hazel front-man Ken Block. Daytime skydiving will take place both Saturday and Sunday; interested divers should visit www.operationswandive.org for more information and to register. A special Saturday night barbeque and concert experience will take place under the big tent at the Pepperell, MA, drop zone, and music fans interested in attending this portion of the event can purchase tickets for $40 in advance on the www.lyricsforlife.org website. Beer, wine, and food will be served, followed by a concert courtesy of Ken Block of Sister Hazel (making an extremely rare Northeast solo appearance), Andrew Hoover, and Alexis Babini. The Saturday evening festivities begin at 8 p.m.
“We’re excited be participating in Operation Swan Dive once again this year,” says Lyrics for Life Executive Director Cynthia Cochrane. “The event organizers do an amazing job convincing people to jump out of an airplane and we’re hoping that those who want to keep their feet on the ground will come out in support of both the jumpers and the cause at our Saturday night barbecue and concert (no jumping required!). “
“I am amazed at the generosity of the local community in this economy,” says Jenny Amidio, Operation Swan Dive organizer. “My hope is that this year we will surpass the last two and reach our goal of raising over $150,000 for cancer charities!”
In addition to benefitting Lyrics For Life, the event’s proceeds will also be shared with two local New England-based charities: Camp Sunshine (Casco, ME) and Jaiden’s Angel (Milford, NH).
