Himalaya Release Debut Album

MP3: "Melt Away"

Formed in Brooklyn in 2007, and founded by former members of Philadelphia's Asteroid #4 and psych-pop ensemble Three Four Tens, Himalaya is making its hallucinogenic mark on NYC with its signature sound, and a self-titled debut that packs a psychedelic punch.

Employing deep drones, ghostly melodies, and spacey, noisy waves of guitar, Himalaya calls to mind their influences - from Spiritualized and Spaceman 3, to the Jesus and Mary Chain and Pink Floyd. Himalaya's self-titled debut is a collection of nine songs that embody the band's distinct voice, unrelenting style, and sonic spaciousness.

Working hard in their home territory, NYC, Himalaya have been busy playing shows and festivals, all the while preparing for the national release of their debut record.

"A definable sound and a dynamic live show that is drawing raves across the city." ~New York Press

"Like a breath of fresh air from days gone by, the Brooklyn band delves into psychedelic rock with a pop edge." ~New York Post

" '31' is an epic psychedelic rock trip tinged with shoegaze elements. Lush with sprawling guitars and hazy vocals, Himalaya create a wall of sound that immerses listeners. The result is a song that is unforgettable; nearly eight minutes of psychedelic bliss." ~Music Dish

"[Himalaya] turned in a solid set of sweaty, drone-y throwback gaze - some of it stoner, some more sweet, and...damn if my thoughts didn't turn to the hallucinogens on offer right now down at Bonnaroo's Shakedown Street. Sonically, I thought they might blow the windows off of little Spike Hill, with a serious wall of sound finish that would have made Kevin Shields proud." ~L Magazine

"[Himalaya] is known for their extraordinarily loud, dissonant live sets, in the same vein as Spaceman 3 or the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Bring yer earplugs!" ~Free Williamsburg

"Psychedelic influenced guitars and effects over the steady rhythm with soothing, almost otherworldly, vocals. The songs are a complete breath of fresh air compared to most indie rock coming out of the most hip borough right now. Shoegaze in the truest sense of the word." ~Phrequency.com

"With the '90s on the cusp of making a comeback, these kids are just in time to usher in a new decade of stoner drone pop. Heavy stuff. Like that needle in your arm." ~brooklynradio.net
