AEG Live presents The Best of Second City featuring the Second City US Touring Company live at the Royal Oak Music Theatre Friday, December 18th and Saturday, December 19th. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 26th at 5pm.
In 1959, when The Second City first opened its doors as a single stage comedy club in Chicago, no one could have imagined that it would eventually turn into one of the most iconic and dynamic comedy theatres in the world. The Second City, who went against the cultural and social norms, held improvisation in high regard, and created a new, groundbreaking comedy that the younger generation could relate to. Second City has proved to be a successful training ground for a number of famous alumni including John Belushi, Mike Myers, Bill Murray, John Candy, Tim Meadows, Dan Aykroyd and over 500 more.
Second City gained international attention when Saturday Night Live premiered, which featured numerous cast members from Second City. Soon after the SNL premier, The Second City’s sister theatre in Canada began producing the TV show “SCTV”, which was applauded by critics and considered by some to be one of the greatest comedy shows of all time. The show also boasted an all-star cast which was packed with comedians such as Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, and Rick Moranis who got their start on Second City.
With comedians such as Steven Colbert, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, and Steve Carell, The Second City continues its tradition of producing top-notch comedic talent. Few could have predicted that the small single stage theatre in Chicago would eventually become an entertainment company, with multiple locations to train tens of thousands of students each week. Second City has proved itself to be an industry leader and bring the best in improvisational based comedy. To this day, Second City continues create unique and groundbreaking material as it leaves its mark on every aspect of the entertainment industry.
The Second City featuring the US Touring Company will perform at the Royal Oak Music Theatre on Friday, December 18th and Saturday, December 19th 2009. The Show starts both nights at 7:00pm. All ages are welcome. Tickets go on sale on Friday, June 26th at 5pm. Tickets are reserved seats and are $22 in advance and $25 at the door.
