Always looking for ways to better the festival each year, Bonnaroo's ninth promises to build on the achievements of the previous eight in all facets of the event. From its music programming to the non-music attractions, activities and art, the promoters are already deep into adding new and exciting elements to create yet another incomparable weekend. Since it's inception in 2002, the festival has evolved into a world-class, multi-faceted entertainment experience, swiftly earning its status as the country's premier music and arts event.
Bonnaroo continues to make a strong impact on the American music industry. The Wall Street Journal called it "one of rock's best festivals," and said that the 2009 lineup "fairly bursts with some of the most gifted acts in rock and pop." The festival has served as a launching pad for such popular artists as Norah Jones, Jack Johnson, Kings of Leon, My Morning Jacket, Ray Lamontagne, Matisyahu, Robert Randolph and many others. A creative and cultural mega-success, Bonnaroo has also featured a staggeringly diverse range of world-class acts such as Bob Dylan, Metallica, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Neil Young, Radiohead, Phish, Willie Nelson, The Police, Pearl Jam, David Byrne, Tom Petty, Tool, Wilco, The Dave Matthews Band, James Brown, The White Stripes, Al Green, Nine Inch Nails, The Dead, Regina Spektor, Widespread Panic, Death Cab For Cutie, Elvis Costello, Ornette Coleman, Amadou and Mariam, Beck, TV on the Radio, Against Me!, Merle Haggard, The Black Crowes, Phoenix, Alison Krauss and Robert Plant, Bright Eyes, Bonnie Raitt, Steve Earle, Jurassic 5, Modest Mouse, The Mars Volta, Common, Burning Spear, the Flaming Lips, among many others.
The festival is also starting to make quite an impact on the comedy industry as well, as it has featured some of today's best comedians working today. From Chris Rock, Lewis Black, Flight of the Concords, David Cross and Fred Armisen to Jimmy Fallon, Triumph The Insult Comic Dog, Jim Norton, Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, Louis CK, Janeane Garofalo, Aziz Ansari, John Oliver and Brian Posehn, Bonnaroo is now considered to be an essential play for every comedian both established and on the rise.
The Bonnaro 2010 line up will be announced in late January/early February.
