MEGATON LEVIATHAN: Oregon Doom Gazers Announce Fall Tour With Wolves In The Throne Room

Band To Re-Release 2009 Demo On Limited Edition Vinyl

Portland, Oregon doom gazers, MEGATON LEVIATHAN, will embark upon a two-week East Coast tour with headliners Wolves In The Throne Room. Known for their elaborate stage productions and stunning live visuals, MEGATON LEVIATHAN takes its listeners on a ritualistic journey that transcends far beyond the boundaries of rock ‘n’ roll. The Celestial Lineage tour is set to commence on September 14, 2011 in Washing D.C., and will run in conjunction to the re-release of the band’s 2009 self-titled demo EP, now available on limited-edition vinyl through the band’s ownVolatile Rock Records. Offering up 35-minutes of raw, ethereal riffing and postrock atmosphere, the remastered demo is limited to 500 copies.

Said the band in a collective statement: “We are very excited to announce that we will be joining our good friends, Wolves In The Throne Room, on a two-week leg of their upcoming North American Tour in support of their new album, Celestial Lineage. It is especially thrilling because this tour has been booked DIY and we will be playing in underground and off-the-beaten-path spaces. This is very much in keeping with the way we wish to tour and share our vision. Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces -- particularly the folks at the Little Hamilton in Nashville, and all you cats in Austin and New Orleans -- and covering some new ground. Make sure to keep an eye on wittr.com for venue listings and directions.”

Radiation City Announces Coast to Coast Summer Tour, Prepare For Fall Release of Debut LP "The Hands That Take You"

Radiation City Announces Coast to Coast Summer Tour

Prepare For Fall Release of Debut LP The Hands That Take You

"pure magic..." - WOXY Future Sounds

"'The Hands That Take You' is a gem; subtle and beautiful and strange..." - The Deli Magazine

Portland-based dream-pop outfit Radiation City have announced a coast to coast US tour behind their debut full-length, The Hands That Take You, out September 27th with Tender Loving Empire (Typhoon, Loch Lomond). Recently performing at Portland's PDX Now Festival, Oregon Music News applauded their stage presence noting, "a huge part of Radiation City's draw is how well they compliment each other live on stage. Their communal presence blends style, chemistry, and skill perfectly."

Radiation City originated when founding members Cameron Spies and Lizzy Ellison first put their heads together founding DIY cassette tape label, Apes Tapes, among a wellspring of other projects. Running a record label put the duo in a position of musical saturation, and after participating in multiple bands and side-projects, they decided to sit down and do it right. The Hands That Take You, first surfaced in February 2011 on Apes Tapes, and after only a few live performances, the band was being lauded as "one of Portland's more polished and promising young acts...(Willamette Week)." Following the local and national attention they've received from these recordings, they've now signed with Tender Loving Empire to release the album nationally on CD and vinyl and are headed to a city near you!

Hello,
My last mass email was somehow blocked by gmail, so I have decided to make my newsletters less graphic intensive & fancy. Sorry if that is disappointing but this is email, not art class. What can I say? I am beyond blown away by the feedback we have received for Hello Cruel World. Dedicating my life to music has of course been a roller coaster, and it feels good to be having so much fun doing what we do and being recognized for our work. Hello Cruel World is in stores now, you can hear it streaming in full on the Old Kentucky Blog,listen/buy on Bandcamp, or just pick it up directly from Fake Four. If you are on the fence check out some of the glowing praise its recieved around the blogosphere. There have been some surprisingly great and informative interviews in Alarm Press, Scratched Vinyl, and Above Ground Magazine. We also recieved favorable press from Vibe Magazine, 2dopeboyz, Potholes in My Blog, Impose, Exclaim,MischkaNYC, The Westword, Pitchfork, the Skinny, Allmusic, and more. This week we will premiere the video for "Immortality" by indie sci fi artist Lando from Decadence Comics, be on the look out for it, its an incredible animation about the modern quest for immortality.
Sole and The Skyrider Band are setting off to the west coast in August and doing the rest of the country in September. We have made a lot of changes to our live performance compared to what we were doing in our early noise rock era... it's tighter, more dynamic and you can understand what I'm saying. The Denver Westword recently gave a very favorable review for our album release party live performance. Here is the trailer for the tour. We set up an official Facebook event for the entire tour here. East Coast/Southern/Midwest dates will be announced soon, but for now here are the west coast dates:

We are currently planning on returning to Europa in November.
We dropped Nuclear Winter 2 back in June, if you didn't get a free copy of that you can get it here. It received a very favorable write up on Brooklyn Vegan. This free mixtape features B. Dolan, Mac Lethal, Time, Pictureplane, Kool A.D., Busdriver, Bleubird, K the I, Evangelist J.B. Best (pedestrian), Cadalack Ron, LuckyIAM, Buddy Peace and Greencarpetedstairs. A few weeks back I thought I'd make a belligerant song about Casey Anthony, you can hear it here.
Other than that I have redesigned the store at soleone.org. I recently created a digital boxed set containing every mansbestfriend record,78 songs in all, for $20. I also put out a new sole "post human" shirt. If somehow you missed it I also dropped Mansbestfriend 6 "Radioactive Rain" back in May for $5 stream/buy here.
Lastly the 187 Ultra monthly series continues. On August 18th we are bringing out MPC Legend JEL of anticon. Peep/share the facebook Event here. Jel will be sharing the stage with Otem Rellik & Real Magic.
Thats it for now. Thank you for your time and see you when we hit your city in the next few months!

Tera Melos premiere new video via Brooklyn Vegan, announce Fall tour dates with Boris, Melt Banana

Click image above to watch video

"Once in a rare while an album comes along that's so fresh and ingenious it redefines what's possible in a field of music. It's been some time since a trio armed with guitar, drums, bass and vocals have shattered the boundaries of convention and pushed the limits of their instruments and compositions like a graceful tsunami of invention." -- Exclaim!

"Tera Melos has ferociously explored the outer limits of bizarre time signatures and unhinged thrash since its self-titled 2005 debut. But the band's full-length, Patagonian Rats is more akin to the type of freak-pop perversion dished out by daring pioneers like Devo and The Flaming Lips." -- Wired.com

Sacramento genre-benders Tera Melos release a new video today courtesy of Brooklyn Vegan. The clip includes two songs, "So Occult" and "Kelly" culled from their recent album, Patagonian Rats. Watch video HERE.

Tera Melos return to the road this Fall supporting new label mates Boris for much of their North American tour, as well as a separate leg of shows supporting Melt Banana. Many more dates will be announced soon (including NYC). Please see the current schedule below.

Collections of Colonies of Bees release GIVING on Hometapes TODAY

Album streaming on The Onion's AV Club

"GIVING aggressively stakes out its territory, never wasting a moment—or a percolating bubble of sound—as it barrels thrillingly forward." - AV Club

Today marks the release of GIVING, the anticipated new album from Milwaukee six-piece Collections of Colonies of Bees, available from Hometapes (via mailorder, iTunes, or your independent record store.)
The first music we've heard from the Bees since their joint project Volcano Choir with Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and the 2009 release of Unmap, GIVING continues the intricate, virtuosic, and emotional dialogue begun by the band thirteen years and six records ago. Now a part of the Hometapes label family, Collections of Colonies of Bees are connecting the dots between their rich history, their infinite influence, and the sheer joy of Rock.
"Collections Of Colonies Of Bees has a deeper bench than anyone probably realized," wrote The Onion's A.V. Club in April, listing Volcano Choir, All Tiny Creatures, and Jon Mueller among the names that have ascended from the Wisconsin-based band's thirteen-year history. Ignited by Chris Rosenau and Mueller in 1998 (and coexisting alongside their band Pele until 2004), Collections of Colonies of Bees has the power and scope to illuminate the bloom of indie rock history.

Their discography spans Polyvinyl and Table of the Elements. They live a double life as Volcano Choir, their lineup intact along with the addition of Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) as vocalist. They've been called Rock, Post-Rock, Art Rock, Electronic, Instrumental, and Experimental. In between all those lines, and with the volume turned way way up, is the true definition of Collections of Colonies of Bees. Now they're joining Hometapes, longtime friends and home to dynamic bands like Bear In Heaven and Megafaun, with a new album, GIVING, to be released this summer.

Click here to view video in your browser.

The pulse is set less than a minute into GIVING, Collections of Colonies of Bees first album in three years. There's no foreplay, no smalltalk -- just endless altitude. Their sixth full-length, the bona fide descendent of Customer and Birds(and even Volcano Choir's Unmap), is a 4-song, 28-minute eruption: Lawn, Vorm, Lawns, Vorms. It's the crashing waves of Rosenau's guitar, the pelting rain of Mueller's percussion, the vaporous breaths of Thomas Wincek's piano, and the rhythmic fabric woven by Jim Schoenecker (electronics), Daniel Spack (guitar), and Matthew Skemp (bass).
GIVING shows Collections of Colonies of Bees as a more fully realized rock unit, pounding through extended passages of endlesslessly skyward motion. This approach, first explored on their last album Birds, now surprisingly finds common ground alongside bands like Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, or even Battles.

Spin Magazine raves "part Pavement, part Grateful Dead, part Neil Young, these North Westerners' sound is a tasty rock 'n' roll Jamba Juice, and live they're spot-on: singer-guitarist Eric Earley leads frenetic, fist-pumping jams and somber acoustic ditties, often back-to-back."Rolling Stone praises the band's "ambling acoustic guitars, warm harmonies and vocalist Eric Earley's ragged growl" and devotion to "radically rearranging [their classic American music,] scuffing it up and refitting it to serve their own purposes." The San Francisco Weekly goes on to say Earley "has the kind of musical ability that looks effortless from the crowd, a clear hankering for variety in his musical repertoire, and a knack for storytelling that would surely make [desert] island time fly."

Press Quotes

"Their gristly, roadhouse swagger fuels short, punchy tracks that speak from the rock ‘n roll soul of the American South." Death and Taxes

“This Atlanta, Georgia foursome add layers of rural lilt to their Brit-ish pop, garagey grit to others, while sneaking out slight-psych guitar blasts and gang yalps when least expected. ” CMJ.com

"Finding an impressive middle ground... easily slip in somewhere between fellow Atlanta natives The Black Lips’ chaos-infused compositions and MGMT’s sing-along medleys." Paste

"Gringo Star – should be literally showered with the same kind of exasperated stammering and fawning heaped onto the stars of the early days of rock and roll, as if these guys were new versions of the Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Beatles’ and all of the American standards in doo wop and R&B that were raging through Detroit and Memphis and Harlem."Daytrotter

" Mixing one part punk rock ethic, one part manic performance and a heavy dose of 1950’s Americana...Images of old Western shootouts, drunken nights in saloons and frantic pianos were all over the place while they played.” Consequence Of Sound

"They've got a killer name and killer tunes. Gringo Star are definitely a band on the rise." The Big Takeover

Boiling up from the independent musical cauldron Hotlanta has become, here comes Gringo Star with its follow up to 2008's critically acclaimed debut, “All Y’all. The band now comes into its own with “Count Yer Lucky Stars, ” a collection of catchy and instantly classic pop music. You won’t be able to stop humming this spate of new and bright tunes, music that lifts the spirit. In this Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley, Deerhunter) produced record, the surge of primordial forces that reveals itself through rock and roll only about every other generation has infected these multi-instrumentalists and the result is an upbeat album of raw energy and positivity. Live, if you can resist the urge to dance, you’ll find your limbs shaking and your toes tapping to a band which has been described as "explosive," "electrifying," and "exceptional." No need for the devices of the main stream musical glitterati who hide lifeless melodies and meaningless lyrics in stage productions and synchronized dancing meant to distract their wide eyed fans; here it’s the music itself - honest and intense. The Gringos, brothers Nicholas and Pete Furgiuele, Pete DeLorenzo and Chris Kaufmann, play each show as if their lives depended on it, and it’s that urgency combined with great song writing, pop beats and skilled harmonies that raise Gringo Star above the cacophonus crowd. These four guys should be literally showered with the same kind of excited stammering and fawning heaped onto the stars of the early days of rock and roll, the musicians who were raging around the U.S., night after night, putting it all out there, playing their hearts out, singing until they were hoarse and soaked in sweat, letting the music do their talking. There were once musical movements in this country, but the fracturing and splintering of the music scene stopped new waves from forming and cresting. This is a band which is creating the new standards to usher in the next tsunami. If you have the chance to catch them in a small venue, you better do it while you still can.

Grammy-award winning singer/songwriter/guitarist Keb Mo has returned with a widely praised new album, The Reflection, out today on Yolabelle/Ryko. The record is receiving overwhelming critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone admiring Keb's "soulful voice and bluesy licks," and theAssociated Press declaring, "with bluesy guitars, groovy Hammond Organs, and Keb Mo's rich, smoky voice, The Reflection is a warm, mellow ride from start to finish." Likewise, Philadelphia Daily News affirms, "you'd need a cold heart and tin ears to remain unmoved by Keb Mo's new album." He will be performing his new hit-single The Whole Enchilada on "Conan" next Wednesday, August 10 and will kick off his thirty-date Reflection Tour this Thursday August 4 at the Villar Center in Beaver Creek, CO. This highly-anticipated 12-song collection is Keb's first studio release since his 2006 album,Suitcase, and also marks the first on his newly formed record label Yolabelle International in association with Ryko and Warner Music Group. Self-produced, The Reflection features duets with India.Arie and Vince Gill, as well as performances by Dave Koz, Marcus Miller, Mindi Abair and world-renowned studio musician David T. Walker. His trademark honest, unadorned vocal, his deceptively simple, sublime guitar work and his catchy melodies are here, of course, but with this recording Keb is more expressive than ever.

"I worked on this record for the better part of 2 years," says Keb. "It took me some time as this was an educational process for me and my engineer John Schirmer. I didn't want to let it go until I had something that I was proud to share with the public. It's the culmination of all of my influences throughout my career."

Keb recently guest starred on TNT's hit show "Memphis Beat," for which he is also the program's music compose and performs the theme song. He discusses the show's music and episodes the day after each show, online here: http://www.tnt.tv/series/memphisbeat.

Keb Mo has consistently garnered acclaim throughout his career, with three of his records winning the Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album. He co-wrote "I Hope" with the Dixie Chicks, which received a Grammy nomination for Country Song of the Year. A gifted songwriter, Keb's songs have been covered by legendary artists including BB King, Natalie Cole and more and he has appeared on recordings by Willie Nelson, Ray Charles and Jackson Browne, to name a few. Halloween, Alaska announce tour with Anna Calvi; Share 2nd single, "Empire Waist!"

Halloween, Alaska to tour UK with Anna Calvi!
-Dates Below-
2nd single, "Empire Waist" released today!

"quite danceable, but not overtly beat-driven. It’s interesting to note how timeless this kind of pop music actually is when it’s done right. Other than some obvious changes in computer-based technology, some of this record sounds like it could be from another time, another place, circa 1988-92....it’s pretty damn good." - Anthony Happel, Impose Magazine

The latest album from Minneapolis-based Halloween, Alaska is a lean and instantly engaging testament to the group's evolution from a studio-born purveyor of lush ambient pop to a full-bodied rock band with equal tastes for winsome melody, warm atmospheric flourish, heady lyricism and freewheeling sonic detours.

All Night The Calls Came In will release on CD and LP September 20th (digital release date is August 30). The band will celebrate with a special album release show in its hometown of Minneapolis on September 10th at First Avenue. Later this fall, the band will embark on its first proper UK tour with Domino recording artist and recent Mercury Prize nominee Anna Calvi.

Halloween, Alaska Fall Dates

09.08 • State Theater Backstage (Eau Claire, WI)
09.10 • First Avenue (Minneapolis, MN)
10.30 • Concorde 2 (Brighton, UK)*
10.31 • Trinity (Bristol, UK)*
11.01 • Shepherds Bush Empire (London, UK)*
11.04 • Library at HMV Institute (Birmingham, UK)*
11.05 • Rescue Rooms (Nottingham, UK)*
11.14 • Manchester Cathedral (Manchester, UK)*

11.15 • Oran Mor (Glasgow, UK)*
11.16 • The Cockpit (Leeds, UK)*
11.19 • Vicar Street (Dublin, IRE)*
11.20 • The Empire (Belfast, IRE)*

*with Anna Calvi.

In a deliberate departure from the slower, more methodical process behind previous albums, the bulk of All Night the Calls Came In was recorded live in a single room during a single week with all four members playing together — its toasty synths and spare electronic drum pads all struck with human hands, never programmed. Recording took place at The Terrarium in Minneapolis in late 2010, engineered and mixed by scene veteran Jason Orris. While its core moods and melodicism will ring familiar to fans of the band's previous albums, this new one also documents the groupʼs most direct and stripped-down work to date.
Following the release of the album's first single, "Dance By Accident," last month, Halloween, Alaska release its second, in the straight-up pop jam, "Empire Waist" today. Listen and download below:

NEW MP3 (Cleared to post): Halloween, Alaska - "Empire Waist"

All Night the Calls Came In also marks the solidification of a new lineup following an extended period of tension and transition. Singer/keyboardist James Diers, guitarist Jacob Hanson and drummer David King (also known for his intrepid work in jazz trio The Bad Plus) are joined by newly recruited bassist William Shaw, a fellow alum of Minneapolis cult favorite 12 Rods.
Halloween, Alaska broke into the indie consciousness in 2004 with an auspicious self-titled set of electronically laced art-pop. Initially hatched by Diers and King as a low-key, studio-based diversion from other projects, the group soon took on a life of its own, spreading by way of internet raves and unlikely T.V. placements to amass a sizable cult following. After 2005's Too Tall to Hide, the band's moody palette began to expand as original keyboardist/engineer Ev Olcott resigned his post and Hanson began to introduce weightier guitar work into the mix. The change was evident in the restless sprawl of 2009's Champagne Downtown, and when the group subsequently parted ways with original bassist Matt Friesen, the addition of Shaw set the stage for a more radical restart.

All Night the Calls Came In is both a continuation and a rethinking of Halloween, Alaska's tuneful aesthetic. Packed with forthright pop hooks and nervy idiosyncrasies, its 10 songs offer an earnest and compelling capsule of the band's self-imposed reboot.

What people have said about Halloween, Alaska:

"You won't find Halloween, Alaska, anywhere on a map. Instead, this Minnesota band inhabits a sensual, weightless world of sweetly brooding electronic pop" - Michael L. Walsh, Spin

"...like [TV On The Radio], this Midwestern quartet lays out moody guitar and keyboards bric-a-brac atop subtly quaking beats...There's understated elegance all over their third record—soft, glassy drones, worried groove glitch, a sly come-on cribbed from an old Prince song." —Blender

"The band brings all of its dramatic spaces and signatures to life with an electronic and slo-core behavior that lets the expressions feel as if they were traumatic masterpieces that we were actually very lucky to have had a chance to be exposed to before the lights went out for good." —Daytrotter

"[FOUR STARS]...HALLOWEEN, ALASKA's emotive verve and electro-organic poise is so accomplished, you'd think you'd got your hands on The Blue Nile's mislaid comeback album." —MOJO

"A lot of bands claim not to fit any preexisting pop music genre, but few can back up such claims as convincingly as Minneapolis-based HALLOWEEN, ALASKA...jittery-jungly and swooningly melodic...sonically large and weirdly cathartic...Highly recommended." —All Music Guide

The Giving Tree Band On Tour this Summer/Fall - Recording New Album news

THE GIVING TREE BAND ANNOUNCE SUMMER & FALL TOUR DATES

RECORDING FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM

APPEARING ON HOME ON THE RANGE COMPILATION

TO BENEFIT NEGLECTED FARM ANIMALS

Since the release of their latest album The Joke, The Threat & The Obvious, The Giving Tree Band have kept busy crisscrossing the nation, playing anywhere their path takes them. Be it a road house, large scale music festival, small bar, or The Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center, they've humbly brought their music to those who would listen. This summer and fall they'll continue to do so, with new dates currently confirmed through mid-October. Dates Below.

Through it all the band have seen the crowds that greet them steadily increase as they've made a name for themselves by way of their live performances and excellent albums. On the PBS television program, Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour, host Michael Johnathon introduced The Giving Tree Band as "the spirit of Pete Seeger with the musical abilities of The Band and the audaciousness of The Avett Brothers" The band were labeled a band "On The Verge" by Relix Magazine, and in anAcoustic Guitar magazine feature this Spring, were described as covering a "wide swath of the classic rock pantheon-such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, the Band, the Grateful Dead, and the Beatles-but with a fuller sound featuring quasi-orchestral instrumentation and barbershop harmonies."

Apart from their sound, The Giving Tree Band is also giving a new look to rock and roll - one that is healthy and hip. Perhaps the rarest aspect of the band is their diet. It is estimated that less than 1% of Americans identify as vegan, and yet all seven members of the GTB have embraced this lifestyle. They also remain drug and alcohol free in order to access deeper creative potential and, in all likelihood, longevity. The Fink brothers felt that if John Lennon and John Coltrane endorsed sobriety at the end of their lives, then they would begin their musical journey where their idols left off (at least philosophically) and see what's possible. The Giving Tree Band is also widely considered to be one of the "greenest" bands and known for extraordinary environmental stewardship which includes custom instruments made from naturally fallen trees and reclaimed woods, biodiesel tours, affinity for biking and camping, 100% recycled packaging of all CD's, carbon neutral album production, and donating as much as 50% of sales to eco-friendly charities.

When not touring The Giving Tree band have been busy at their home studio in Yorkville, IL, working on recording their fourth studio album. The past year on the road has greatly affected the bands sound as they've begun to introduce more of their rock 'n' roll influenced live sound to their songwriting and recording. The band hope to complete the album this fall and plan to release their new record in 2012. In the mean time, they will be featured on a benefit compilation entitled, Home On The Range, alongside other notable vegetarian and vegan artists Chrissie Hynde, Yoko Ono, Moby and Matisyahu. Set for a September release, proceeds will go to farm animal sanctuaries that rescue and care for abused and neglected farm animals.
