It all started out with a couple cases of beer, a back porch, and a few old friends. In the hot, muggy summer of 2008, longtime friends and former band mates Sean-Paul Pillsworth and Bill Manley decided it was time to pick up their dusty guitars and start writing music together again. It wasn't long until they recruited ex-Astronauts drummer Steve Markota, and the resulting chemistry was undeniable.
The trio played a packed hometown show, and in months they were traveling far from their native Kingston, NY, playing nearly every weekend. They kept getting called back, each time with bigger and more enthusiastic performances to match the crowds. A year went by so fast. They released their debut EP, A Flood Tomorrow, produced by studio pro John Naclerio (My Chemical Romance, Senses Fail, Polar Bear Club) at Nada Studios in New Windsor, NY. After releasing the CD on friend-run imprint Music for End Times, Naclerio signed the band to his own Broken English record label for digital distribution.
In June of 2010 the band reentered Nada Studios as free agents to record their full-length debut. In addition to a brand new album, the band also came out of the studio with a brand new label, Brooklyn-based Academy Fight Song. Their full-length entitled “Don’t Die” is out now. Nightmares for a Week will be touring the country in support of the new album, full US tour dates coming soon.

Jonny AKA Norman Blake & Euros Childs announce debut album details & release “Candyfloss” video
Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) and Euros Childs (Gorky's Zygotic Mynci) are pleased to announce details of their debut album together as Jonny. Inter-twining the musical DNA of two of Britain’s most gifted songwriters, Jonny’s debut album proclaims the advent of an irresistibly infectious new strain of psychedelic pop. The self-titled, co-written album will be released via digital download on February 1st and in stores on April 12. Pre-orders of the CD from the Merge store will receive the digital version beginning February 1st.
Blake’s Teenage Fanclub and Childs’ Gorky’s toured together in 1997, and when Blake contributed guitar and vocal harmonies to Gorky’s bitter-sweet How I Long To Feel That Summer In My Heart in 2001, Euros remembers “it just felt like he was part of the band… from that point on it always felt like we might do something together in the future, it just took a few years to actually get it organized”. Euros eventually made it up to Norman’s house in Glasgow in 2006 to record “what we thought was an EP”, and the duo played a handful of rapturously received live shows, before finally getting down to putting a whole album together early in 2010.
The album artwork (image above) is also revealed to be the inspiration behind their unusual name. Blake came across the image on a friend’s website “and thought it would make a great record sleeve… and name for a band." “Sleeve first, band-name after”, confirms Childs, “that’s always the best way."
A US tour later this year is in the works!

The Sound Of Growing Up is the moniker of singer/songwriter Justin Kao (kay-oh). A Boston transplant via Long Island, NY, Kao moved to Boston shortly after finishing college to pursue his career in music. Having played small shows and open mics in the local area, Kao began building up a network of fans, friends, and musicians with his catchy melodies and earnest lyrics.

The band’s aptly titled debut EP, Drifting, due out March 8, 2011, is a sweeping range of emotions that travel from uncertainty and apathy to hope and promise. Hints of The Beatles and the Beach Boys mingle with the power pop sensibilities of Jellyfish and Weezer, building upon Kao’s insightful lyrics to create what he affectionately calls “smart pop.”
Recorded at Barefoot Studios in Boston, the record was produced by Kao with arrangement help from band guitarist Thomas Meunier. The pair also enlisted the help of veteran studio drummer Mike Levesque (David Bowie, Susan Tedeschi, Juliana Hatfield) and engineer Nate Christy (Al Jardine of The Beach Boys, Casey Desmond). The record was mixed by Jon Castelli and mastered by Grammy Award winner Nathan Dantzler of LA's The Hit Lab Studios.
Having since filled out the band's lineup to include Gerard Beaudoin (son of New England jazz/blues legend Gerry Beaudoin) on drums and Steve Tagarelis on bass, The Sound Of Growing Up looks to continue captivating fans with their unique brand of insightful smart pop.

MIDDLE BROTHER OFFERS FIRST GLIMPSE INTO DEBUT RECORD; "ME, ME, ME" FIRST SONG FROM SELF-TITLED RECORD DUE OUT MARCH 1;
Partisan Records is excited to offer the first song from the highly anticipated debut album from Middle Brother. Middle Brother is Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit, and the song is called "Me Me Me." It was originally given away two weeks ago as a Christmas present from the band to its fans. The response was incredible. Now the song can be downloaded HERE. The full album will be released on March 1, 2011.
Middle Brother played their first show at 2010's SXSW. Their second show took place last month, on December 20, at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, as part of a benefit for Invisible Children. PAPA GROWS FUNK NOMINATED FOR BEST OF THE BEAT AWARD
New Orleans band Papa Grows Funk has been nominated for Offbeat Magazine’s Best of the Beat Award for Best R&B/Funk Artist. Fans can register and vote by clicking here. In addition to the nomination, Papa Grows Funk (PGF) keyboardist John Gros has also been nominated for Best Piano/Keyboardist.
PGF recently hired industry veteran Stephen Klein as its manager. Klein's artists, which have included Cowboy Mouth and Deadeye Dick, have combined to sell well over a million records, and have to their credit two gold records, as well as numerous singles charting in Billboard Magazine.
PGF is currently working on new material and planning to release a new CD in the first half of 2011.

Prussia's music is energetic, poppy- and melodious. You feel like dancing, though there’s no way in hell you would describe this as dance music. Waltzes, African drum beats, acapella breakdowns, and the gentle ringing of sleigh bells all fit into their unique arrangements naturally.
The band formed on the first day of 2007, practicing in the A. C. Rich, a DIY venue in Pontiac, Michigan. Prussia later became connected with the legendary Scrummage University, a DIY space in Detroit that is interconnected with other underground venues across the country.
Fiery Furnaces, Quasi, Dr. Dog, Black Heart Procession, Thunderbirds are now, Islands, Beach House, tUnE-YaRdS, and Dent May are among the many well-known bands that Prussia has played with.
The band are currently finishing their highly-anticipated new full-length album, Poor English. Swaggering drum loops, intricate guitar compositions, and buttery vocal harmonies all support the sweet nasal crooning of singer Ryan Spencer on the new album. Stories of suicide, misogyny, sexual vacancy, and the crippling ennui of illusory love all weave in and out of catchy pop songs. Lyrically, it’s T.S. Eliot’s drunken scribbling on a bathroom wall.
While mixing Poor English, the band also created Prussia Goes to the Disco, a mixtape of all new electronic Prussia songs. The simultaneous creation of two aesthetically different, but highly listenable releases proves that this is an unpredictable band that is going to do exactly what they want to do and that this is definitely for the best.
Prussia will be releasing a new EP, Four For Attention, on January 11, 2011.

Andy D is a hurricane of sex, sweat, and day-glo. He burst onto the Indianapolis scene a little more than a year ago, after moving down to Bloomington via Brooklyn. His live shows immediately became the stuff of legend. Combining rap, rock, and comedy, Andy D is best experienced in flesh rather than talked about.
Andy D will release his sophomore album, Songs In The Key Of Magic, in March 2011 on Roaring Colonel Records.
