GOBBLE GOBBLE has declared its evolution into Born Gold. Cecil Frena explains:
Cecil: “We have been slowly coaxing this caterpillar into a butterfly with our fists. Check it out, girl - a new face to fit both our past to date and the futuresex we are slowly growing into. Stand before a mirror, hold your palm over your right eye, and repeat Born Gold six times.”
Born Gold's debut LP Bodysongs, arriving September 20th, 2011 on Hovercraft / Crash Symbols, is a selected singles compilation of high-energy, futuristic noise-pop anthems recorded over the past couple years. The album art, above, was painted by Megan James of Purity Ring.
To the left are the first two jams from Bodysongs, “Alabaster Bodyworlds” and "Decimate Everything". Limited to 300 on white vinyl, the record is available for pre-order here.

Crystal Stilts Radiant Door EP Streaming At The Onion AV Club; Fall Tour Dates Announced

Crystal Stilts Radiant Door EP  Streaming At The Onion AV Club
Radiant Door Out November 8 On Sacred Bones
Fall Tour Dates Announced
The Onion's AV Club is running an exclusive stream of Crystal Stilts Radiant Door EP a week before release date. Head over to their website to listen. Recorded in early 2011 by Gary Olson, with the band’s guitarist JB Townsend producing, Radiant Door unveils some of the Stilts’ most dynamic recordings to date. The album features the beguiling blend of romanticism and mystery that one expects from singer and lyricist Brad Hargett.
Radiant Door reflects the band’s experiments with specific ideas in the studio and what they’ve been excited about and listening to, including Blue Orchids, Sanford Clark, and many more. Opening track “Dark Eyes” may be their strongest song to date, unshackling them from their fuzzy reputation, which, even at its heaviest, could never obscure one from this bands dexterous song-craft.

This has been a remarkable year for the band, including the release of their sophomore full-length, In Love With Oblivion, to rave reviews, and almost continual touring since. Fall plans consist mostly of staying close to home and working on new material, with some additional US and European touring scheduled for November and December.

Crystal Stilts Tour Dates
11.29 - Boston, MA @ Great Scott
11.30 - Montreal, QC @ Il Motore
12.01 - Toronto, ON @ Horseshoe Tavern
12.02 - Chicago, IL @ Empty Bottle
12.03 - Cleveland, OH @ Happy Dog
12.04 - Pittsburgh, PA @ Garfield Artworks
12.09 - New York, NY @ Knitting Factory

Stereogum Premieres Pretty Good Dance Moves feat. Sabina Sciubba (Brazilian Girls) "8th Movement (I Wonder Why)" + Album LIMO out 2/7/12

New York’s Pretty Good Dance Moves Feat. Sabina Sciubba (Brazilian Girls)
Announce New Album LIMO

(feel free to download and share)

“Remember when VHS tapes came in colors, specifically bubblegum pink? This is the sonic version of that.” - RCRD LBL

“…a triumphant little electro-pop track that tickles hearts and synths and hearts like Passion Pit, trades and harmonizes vocals like Ra Ra Riot or those guys behind “Young Folks.”  - Stereogum

Pretty Good Dance Moves announce their new album LIMO to be released on February 7th, 2012. For this full-length, which will be released on MAD Dragon/Township, the band enlisted the sultry vocals of Brazilian Girls’ singer Sabina Sciubba. You can hear the first track, premiered exclusively by Stereogum HERE. (feel free to share and repost).

A long form music video to accompany LIMO was produced by French filmmaker Antoine Wagner (credits include “From a Mess to the Masses” a documentary about the rise of the French rock band Phoenix as well as their music video “Listomania”) and will be available shortly.

The synthy-electro dance band Pretty Good Dance Moves with Jimmy Giannopoulos and Aaron Allietta at the core, is based out of Brooklyn, NY and spent the last few years cutting tracks with dozens of collaborators, including Bjorn Yttling (Peter Bjorn & John), Lissy Trullie, Patience Hodgson (The Grates), Linnea Jonsson (Those Dancing Days) & Genevieve Schatz (Company of Thieves).  The band released their self-titled debut PGDM EP in 2010.

Pretty Good Dance Moves new album LIMO was cut at their Brooklyn apartment and in Paris, France. This new album crosses electro-experimental-ambient and disco boundaries and takes a different approach from their previous recordings. LIMO is 32 minutes long, composed of 8 movements and intended to be listened to as one complete work from start to finish.  PGDM’s intention was to make a record, not singles!  Sabina Sciubba of Brazilian Girls is the featured vocalist on LIMO and sings in 3 different languages (English, German and French).

Pretty Good Dance Moves was born when the group combined their analog synths and drum machine collections and began experimenting with electro/dance tracks in 2006. After a few years of experimenting the group cut some demos which were released by the group independently. These recordings caught the attention of Seattle’s influential KEXP radio station, which invited the band to do an in-studio while they were broadcasting in Chicago for a week. This dynamic performance, which was their first ever, immediately launched the band into the spotlight, with a KEXP staff member later naming it the best in-studio of the year. Meanwhile, Spin Magazine decided to premiere their video starring the correspondent from the Daily Show/ Flight of the Conchords personality Kristen Schaal.

Announce Details of Final Show, December 9th at The Metro in Chicago
Special Two-Hour Set + Guests El Oso, Sainthood Reps, and Monday's Hero

What: Felix Culpa Final Show
When: Friday, December 9th, 2011 (5pm - 10pm)
Where: The Metro - Chicago, IL
How: All Ages / $11

On the heels of announcing their breakup, progressive post-rock cult heroes The Felix Culpa have announced the details of their final show, taking place on Friday, December 9th at The Metro in Chicago.

Joined on the bill by friends El Oso, Sainthood Reps, and Monday's Hero, the Culpa will be celebrating their final performance with a special two-hour long set playing a combination of album-favorites past and present, for what will ultimately serve as a memorable event for both fans and band members alike.

In a recent statement on their website, The Felix Culpa left the following message for their fans: "Eight years ago we decided to be a band. Tonight we decided to stop. Whether you have been with us since the Divine Cup days in Rockford, IL or you heard us for the first time tonight, thank you. With every ounce of our four hearts, thank you. You have been the reason we were The Felix Culpa and each one of you were with us all along. For those of us in this band, it has been a life changing experience that profoundly shaped who we are as people, but seasons change and songs end. Now, we humbly ask you to be with us one last time as we celebrate the music, friendship and memories that were made along the way in a final performance in Chicago... Until then, chin up. No tears. Only from endings can new beginnings be born."

The Felix Culpa's new "Sever Your Roots / Bury The Axe" LP+EP is out now on No Sleep Records.

TAAKE: Full Album Stream Available Via The Onion's A.V. Club

TAAKE: Full Album Stream Available Via The Onion's A.V. Club

Noregs Vaapen, the latest offering of blackened mayhem from Norway's TAAKE, was unleashed to North American fans via Candlelight Records yesterday, November 1. In celebration of its long-anticipated release, a full stream of the record is currently available via The Onion's A.V. Club at THIS LOCATION.

Produced by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (Dead To This World, The Batallion, Helheim, Vulture Industries, etc.), and featuring guest appearances by Nocturno Culto (Darkthrone), Attila Csihar (Mayhem) and Demonaz (Immortal), TAAKE again crush ears with new twists on their trademark black metal sound by incorporating black 'n' roll grooves, mellotron and banjo. The A.V. Club called the outing,  "an impeccably raw, morbidly melodic disc that erupts spasmodically into jagged grooves and soaring choruses," MetalSucks dubbed it a "strong contender for black metal album of the year..." and Blistering championed the effort saying, "Noregs Vaapen should become TAAKE’s staple release, the product of a band (or one man, rather) finally hitting its creative stride." Metal Underground shared the sentiment: "Noregs Vaapen is a solid album that should appease the ravenous black metal hordes," while Metal Review added, "Noregs Vaapen is filled with engaging songwriting and surprising left-turns, and brims with an enthusiasm and vitality that was somewhat lacking in its predecessor."

Parenthetical Girls cover Kate Bush, release new Privilege 12" today

MP3: "Under The Ivy" (Kate Bush Cover) -
MP3: "A Note To Self" (From Privilege IV) -

Parenthetical Girls

"Is There An Oven That's Big Enough To Fit Your Head In?"

Ever the pragmatists, Parenthetical Girls are in the midst of releasing Privilege--the band's new full length--as a box set of five extremely limited 12" EPs on their own Slender Means Society label. These EPs will be sold separately in sequence every quarter over the next 15 months, each as they are completed. They will not be distributed to stores. As the cycle concludes, the fifth and final 12" will come packaged in a beautiful, aesthetically cohesive LP box designed to house all four of the preceding releases, forming the complete Privilege album. Limited to 500 physical copies per EP, the 12"s will each feature original art by renowned Swedish illustrator Jenny Mörtsell, and will be hand-numbered in the blood of their respective band members. The fourth 12"--subtitled Sympathy For Spastics--will be released on November 1, 2011, and will be
numbered in the blood of cover star/Parenthetical Girl Amber Smith.

Having taken pop extravagance to its logical conclusion with their critically acclaimed Orchestral Pop opus Entanglements, Parenthetical Girls have given the orchestra their leave--and the resulting transformation is no less momentous. Returning to its core membership of vocalist/creative director Zac Pennington and producer/arranger Jherek Bischoff, the group set about a path that they have heretofore never really charted: that of sonic restraint. And though the results could scarcely be called subtle, the language of Privilege is direct and unambiguous--a new creative candor that's felt in both its words and music. It's Parenthetical Girls in fighting trim, and the difference is both immediate and undeniable.

The group continues this ambitious experiment with Privilege, pt IV: Sympathy For Spastics--a bizarre and bombastic four-song suite of familial entrapments, the sexual politics of class warfare, and blissful resignation. The EP opens upon "The Privilege," a meditative exploration of family discord and terminal nostalgia. "A Note To Self" follows, an uncharacteristically upbeat pop pastiche about coming to terms with critical failure, personal resentments, and creative responsibility. "Entitlements" is a spiteful attack on the indulgences of privileged self-pity (with wincingly direct allusions to a particular patron saint of privileged malaise), while "Sympathy For Spastics" explores the often bleakly patronizing intersection of class and sexual politics. Together, they comprise a bold, strikingly cohesive pop clarion call that further solidifies Parenthetical Girls' place amongst the most surprising and uncompromising pop groups at work today. And there's more where that came from.

SELECTED ACCOLADES FOR PRIVILEGE

" a lilting pop sensation... synths, sex and inevitably defeat are inherent and On Death & Endearments captures a band hitting their stride. " --Drowned In Sound

"intricate melodies, bold instrumentals, and bizarre sounds, but this is what Parenthetical Girls does best."--The Music Slut

" Every second of this record sounds amazing."--Redefine Magazine

"Parenthetical Girls, this might be love."--Impose Magazine

"These four tracks drag you deep into Zac Pennington's lurid psyche, a world that manages to be as luxuriously seductive as it is strained and terrifying."--The Music Fix

Company Of Thieves "Won't Go Quietly" // LIVE VIDEO with FREE DOWNLOAD at HobNob Wines Inner Circle

COMPANY OF THIEVES released Running From A Gamble earlier this year on Wind-up Records and a FREE DOWNLOAD of “Won’t Go Quietly” is currently available via HobNob Wines' INNER CIRCLE on Facebook, where fans can access free music downloads, tastemaker editorial content, and special events.

In addition to the free download, there is now also live performance video from a June 2011 concert at New York's Bowery Ballroom.

Featured by Interview Magazine, Spin, AOL Spinner, Consequence of Sound and as Paste’s “Best Of What’s Next,” Company of Thieves are currently on tour through November.

“Singer Genevieve Schatz has a refreshingly dynamic, captivating performance style,” commends Live Daily.  “Shaking a tambourine and dancing freely around the stage, her vocals are a combination of Bjork and Regina Spektor.  Her extended notes were nearly jaw-dropping, and certainly goose-bump inducing.”

Running From A Gamble
is the follow up to the band’s debut, Ordinary Riches.  That album was released in 2009 and landed at #5 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and the band toured non-stop around the release, performing headline dates and also opening for bands such as OK GO and The Hold Steady, followed by duets with Daryl Hall on his hit show, “Live From Daryl’s House.”  Reviews of the album and live performances were nothing but positive. Entertainment Weekly raved, “Thanks to Genevieve’s consistently gutsy soul-chick vocals and her bandmates’ energetic arrangement…their technique can’t be denied.”

"Doldrums is one dude from Montreal named AIrick Woodhead, who has a strong, high-pitched voice and folds industrial, rave-geared sounds, psychedelia, spoken-word samples, jungle, techno, and ambient noise into slippery, amorphous songs."  PITCHFORK
"Doldrums creator Airick Woodhead laces acute whips of racing violin into gridiron-ready samples of percussion and brass, creating an unlikely combination of three very different worlds: the marching band, the symphony, and the disco-tech.  With this prodigious barrage of psychedelic pop, Doldrums affirms that its place on Portishead’s forthcoming Chase The Tear 12” is warranted." ALTERED ZONES

On Empire Sound....
Combining the beautiful boudoir pop of contemporaries Atlas Sound, Panda Bear or How To Dress Well with Doldrums' own enthralling post-punk magpie tendencies,"Endless Winter" hangs a widescreen chorus over a dewy eyed, sample-heavy backing; "Tantrum", frazzled and scattered yet perfectly in tune with itself, is the perfect foil for Woodhead's tenor voice, and "Lost In My Head", with its prominent use of Airick's 'voice organ', stands as a frighteningly accurate self-diagnosis of his work as a whole—chaotic and yet inherently spectacular, a whole world for listeners to explore.

DOLDRUMS:
"When the winds are gone the sea actually has no swells, on a clear day the color of the sky is reflected in the water.
At night the same effect, with no clouds or moon, gives you the effect of floating in space
."  WIKIPEDIA
...........................................................................................
Doldrums is a musical venture produced by Canadian artist Airick Woodhead.
As a part of a larger community reacting to overhype, the plasticity of modern youth culture and it's ultimately alienating nature, his music deals with the loss of the individual in an increasingly altruistic society. Doldrums' music reflects this societal change on a personal level, as a member of the last generation to remember life pre-internet and 24 hour status updates. His androgynous voice comes across mid-panic attack, floating in a sea of chopped up samples, disembodied vocals and tribal percussion. Spearing between electro-hallucinogenic freak outs and languid nostalgia, his tracks somehow manage to elevate classic pop melodies above a sample saturated sound collage.
Doldrums began in 2010 by posting videos and designing websites by fictional bands under a variety of different band pseudonyms, 'Doldrums' being one of them, the name taken from a favorite children's book, Norton Juster 's 'The Phantom Tollbooth". He gained notoriety in his native Toronto through performances at Everlasting Super Joy, his studio and DIY venue co-run with members of DD/MM/YYYY, as well as involvement in flash parties in abandoned spaces. 2010 saw the release of a number of 7"s including a split with DD/MM/YYYY and a VHS mixtape of his own music videos.
In 2011, after hearing his interpretation of their song "Chase the Tear", Portishead announced they would release his song as the b-side to their single. At the same time, new tracks fell into the hands of cult London indie label No Pain In Pop, and were quickly confirmed for release as Empire Sound, his debut EP.
Though now based out of Montreal his sound and attitude screams Toronto, where artists like Skrillex, Crystal Castles and Fucked Up are known for challenging existing ideologies about format and genre.

Doldrums' music is mostly influenced by friends such as DD/MM/YYYY and recent tourmate Grimes, and the references he makes to pop culture have a placed artificiality and unfamiliarity to them. Doldrums is emotionally vindicating sonic exploration—a fractured mirror image of what our post-internet culture has become.

Doldrums will be releasing a limited edition 12" split with Portishead of "Chase The Tear" on XL Recordings. It will be sold on XL's webstore, at Portishead shows, and in indie record shops starting November 14th.
