Nashville may never be the same! Last week, progressive heavy metal band MINDCAGE delivered a powerful performance at Nashville's famed and iconic music venue, The Rutledge LMV, as part of 2014 Summer NAMM. The show also featured rising star rocker triplets "More Like Me" and fierce female-fronted rockers "Rearview Ghost".

MINDCAGE took to the stage at this special engagement performing their acclaimed concept album Our Own Devices in its entirety. They were joined live for the very first time by Julie Westlake of HYDROGYN, who sang on the album. Her powerful voice introduced the world to the character Arabella Vash, a young woman in the story who uses the power of her dreams to transform the dystopian world she inhabits.

In another surprise twist, the band announced a line-up change and introduced the audience to the bass prowess of Gulf Coast pro-music scene veteran "Bobby B" Williamson. Bobby hails from the same NW Florida region as the rest of MINDCAGE and has played in progressive metal bands to rock and party cover bands and is a seasoned pro.

“It was very difficult to accept for all of us that our long time bassist and dear friend Brian Howell could not participate in MINDCAGE as things have began to ramp up. He has a very full life, career and a beautiful family and we could not ask him to disrupt that, it was not fair to ask any more of him,” says MINDCAGEFounder/Guitarist Dietrick Hardwick. “It seemed an impossible task to fill the void he left. The chemistry and bass prowess Brian had proved too difficult to replicate or even emulate for several talented players we auditioned. It's an amazing story I will tell soon, but suffice it to say, "Bobby B" just showed up. He'd done the work, he learned the album as I asked and then made it his own. Painstaking hours, then he brought his foundational groove and within one rehearsal he had the album down and he and Craig brilliantly honed the songs for more live impact. Then he just showed up like a pro, walked in and kicked ass and was gone like the wind! We hope we see him again very soon!”

“The real treat for me was to sing these songs live with Julie. She's phenomenal. We clicked in the studio effortlessly, and it was the same way at an impromptu rehearsal then even better live." recalls singer Jeff Hignite.“She came out, and it was just there. We launched into "The Human Race" and I know everyone in the house was transfixed. When we sing together, as good as it sounds on the record, it just goes to a whole new level when we connect on that eye level live. It's a very awe-inspiring, humbling thing even for me to experience that connection as the lead singer. I don't know what else to say. She's got "it", and in spades!”

Just last year, MINDCAGE wrapped up the mixing process on Our Own Devices with triple-platinum and legendary producer Michael Wagener (Ozzy Osbourne, Accept, Megadeth, Alice Cooper, Helloween) at his acclaimed WireWorld Studio just outside of Nashville, TN.

MINDCAGE recently confirmed August 12th as the release date for a digital special edition release of Our Own Devices. Pre order it via Amazon now!

The new release will extend the story with two new songs that are an important interlude before they embark on recording Pt. 2 of this Dystopian trilogy concept derived from Hardwick's prophetic Sci-fi literary work entitled “Earthchime”. The original version of Our Own Devices was self-produced by the band, and Wagener completed vocal and guitar solo overdubs as well as the mix.

MINDCAGE puts a fresh, conceptual spin on an internationally-embraced classic heavy metal sound, originally established by artists like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Not unlike the aforementioned groups, MINDCAGEserves up a potent blend of heavy melodies mixed with progressive influences à la Rush, but offers a unique steampunk twist to the theme of the music.

TO HUMANS Releases New Album “Metacognition” – Featuring Jeremy Lombardo (Son of Ex-Slayer Drummer Dave Lombardo)

Blending Alternative, Indie and Progressive Influences – RIYL Arctic Monkeys, Circa Survive, Nirvana

1904105_745755775448178_264488410_n

TO HUMANS, a hybrid of alternative, indie and progressive rock, is a California born and raised, high-energy trio, composed of Danny Toranzo (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Ace Anderson (Bass) and Jeremy Lombardo (Drums) son of former Slayer drummer, Dave Lombardo. They're quickly garnering a buzz among the music industry elite and music lovers alike.

The band’s new album, Metacognition, was released on June 27, 2014. The album was produced by TO HUMANS and David A. Lombardo (brother to Jeremy), will full engineering, mixing and mastering credits going to David A. Lombardo as well.

“We just wanted to create something bigger than ourselves that survives on its own and not be outdated. Our goal is for this album to prove that honest expression and emotion can still survive as an art. There is nothing better than the satisfaction of creating something meaningful with your friends that mean the most to you,” states Jeremy Lombardo.

These three musicians are bringing a fresh sound to the alternative rock genre and beyond. Influenced by Arctic Monkeys, Circa Survive and Nirvana, they combine honest, expressive lyrics with lasting melodies and a hard-driving energetic live show. This compelling band, without question, tops the “Ones to Watch” list.

The band cites Portugal the Man, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Circa Survive, Arctic Monkeys and others as influences.

Bio:

Since 2010 and over 2 albums and a slew of singles and tapes, Terry Malts have been exploring the murky area where hope meets disgust, an area populated with anger, hatred, exhaustion, delusion, seclusion, consumption, life, death, breathing, eating and a host of other conflicting and confusing ideas. Their records to date have a been a refreshing blast of catchy punk, pop-influenced but also chaotic, noisy, shredding. Imagine Bubba from Void sitting in with Descendents and and you're part of the way there. Fall 2013's Nobody Realizes This Is Nowhere was their most concise release yet - a concentrated blast of melodic bile that cast a long look at life and didn't always like what it saw.

Now Terry Malts are releasing their first new material in almost a year. The Insides EP might be their most "pop" record yet, but don't let that make you believe that they've given up on the blazing, verge-of-feedback guitars or pummeling rhythms. "Let You In" is classic power-pop revved up and played LOUD - a pogo party in under two minutes. "Grumpiest Old Men" is an ode to telling those damn kids to get off your lawn, showcasing guitarist Corey Cunningham on vocals. "Don't" is a stop/start thriller, dark and driving but as always sporting a melody that most pop bands would slay for. Wrapping up the EP is a fine version of New Zealand legends The Chills' "Hidden Bay," giving some insight into the varied influences that feed into Terry Malts and help explain why "pop" and "punk" don't adequately describe what they do.

BRIMSTONE COVEN: New Cosmic Hymn From Retro/Doom Metal Sorcerers Now Playing At Revolver; Release Day Draws Near

As retro doom metal sorcerers, BRIMSTONE COVEN, prepare for the official unveiling of their self-titled full-length and inaugural release for Metal Blade Records, today Revolver Magazine summons forth the cosmic echoes of "Children Of The Sun."

Spawned in Wheeling, West Virginia in 2011, BRIMSTONE COVEN manifests a captivating amalgam of dark, smoky cult rock that echoes the eerie reverberations of Black Sabbath and Pentagram, mixed with the classic rock expressions of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, all the while preserving a vintage rock sound mixed with a style all their own. The outfit's Metal Blade debut boasts seventeen inebriating tracks of manic occult conjurings - a combo of their self-released full-length and EP - complete with new mastering and the vintage art renderings of Creighton Hill.

In an advance review of the offering, Metal Underground relays, "Brimstone Coven should appeal to most of the occult rock set for its vintage sound and supernatural atmosphere that pervades throughout the album. The band's use of dynamics is fantastic," furthering that, "the band's members have major chops and their foray into the occult is certainly alluring." Against Magazine notes, "the dry sound can refer to Led Zeppelin, the blues soul derives directly from Black Sabbath and the solid structures scream Pentagram, but somehow BRIMSTONE COVEN manage to do it with a bit of own musical personality and self-consciousness," while Sea Of Tranquility concurs, "this is not your typical stoner/doom release by any means. There is a psychedelic feel throughout the album that drifts between the riffs, adding the right amount of atmosphere and a somewhat spooky element that works quite well." Adds The Obelisk, "Brimstone Coven is an album that righteously engages the tenets of classic doom. There's an early '70s sway to the material, a looseness in the rhythm section of bassist Andrew D'Cagna and drummer Justin Wood, that gives the chugging, grooving riffs of guitarist Corey Roth both meat and movement, and vocalist 'Big John' Williams meshes with this modus perfectly, the layers of his voice harmonizing and calling to mind the natural feel and melodic range of grandiose '70s prog, working with the music surrounding to give cuts like 'Behold, The Anunnaki,' 'The Black Door' and 'The Séance' a mystique without sounding overblown or needlessly theatrical. It's a careful balance and BRIMSTONE COVEN executes it well."

Comments the band of latest premiere, "This song focuses lyrically on prehistoric cultures that saw our Sun as a Godhead, protector and creator."

Ex-Breathers Share Explosive New Single on Stereogum + Tour Dates

"EXBX" EP due out October 7th via Texas is Funny Records

Tallahassee, Florida's Ex-Breathers are getting ready to release their new EP, EXBX, a brash, chaotic, and explosive 12 tracks that roar by in just under 12 minutes. It's safe to say the hardcore/punk trio is wasting no time. Every last twist and turn of their punk meets math rock meets hardcore sound is well crafted and delivered with an enormous fury and destructive perfection. This is not your typical hardcore band. Ex-Breathers are far more than that and EXBX is a dynamic record with skull crushing riffs that demand repeat listening. The EP will be released on October 7th via Texas Is Funny Records(Hawks (of Holy Rosary), Glish, Vetter Kids). EXBX is the follow up to the band's triumphantly harsh self released full length debut Collision.

Today, Stereogum are sharing Ex-Breather's first new single "Pocket" together with the bands tour dates (see below for complete dates). Stereogum called the song, "44 seconds of charging guitars, David Yow-influenced yelps, and still plenty of unpredictable twists and turns," while comparing the brevity of the EP to recent punk favorites White Lung and Perfect Pussy.

Ex-Breathers are kicking off a two week tour starting tomorrow, July 31st with Birmingham, AL's Deism that will take their explosive live show from Alabama up to Brooklyn and back down to Florida. Ex-Breathers are a band that truly needs to be seen live. Having formed in early 2011, and sharing influences of hardworking punk luminaries Minutemen, Fugazi, and Husker Du, the trio have played well over 200 shows in the past few years throughout the country including packed audiences at The Fest and Macrock Festival. There is a great DIY scene of punk bands emerging from Tallahassee, and Ex-Breathers are leading the way, one blistering riff at a time.

Dave Lombardo's PHILM Announces New Record Deal with UDR Music + Release of Sophomore Album, "Fire From The Evening Sun"

Dave Lombardo’s PHILM Announces New Record Deal + Release of Sophomore Album, “Fire From The Evening Sun”

New Album Drops September 16, 2014 via UDR Music

Dave Lombardo’s PHILM has announced that their long awaited second studio album, Fire From The Evening Sun, will be released on the band’s new label, UDR Music, on September 16, 2014 in the US (September 15 in UK/September 12 in other European territories).

“UDR is honored to be working with PHILM. This partnership seems very instinctual," said UDR Music’s head of A&R/Marketing, Jay Lansford.  “Dave Lombardo and I worked together during the Grip Inc. years. After hearing PHILM’s new album this alliance was clearly divine will.  Powerful, intense... urgent.  These three prolific musicians have created something that is refreshingly not mundane, but ear-shattering and groundbreaking.”

Led by the title track single ‘Fire From The Evening Sun’, PHILM’s unparalleled drummer, Dave Lombardo, states that the new album will mark a different turn in the bands musical journey. “PHILM’s first album, Harmonic, is still an amazing work to me. It’s improvisational and raw. It was my first time producing an album and I am very proud of it.   The new album is a completely different animal. It is again produced by me, but mastered and mixed by a couple of musical giants... Tyler Bates and Robert Carranza.  I believe this album has a daring, callous temperament about it that really sums up our mindset right now.  No improvising, no fluff.  It’s heavy and in your face from start to finish. You may think you know what PHILM is, but you don’t.  If you haven’t seen us live, you have no idea. We thrive on being out of our comfort zones and want fans to take that ride.”

If ‘Fire From The Evening Sun’ is any indication, this album will not only give Lombardo fans what they have so passionately missed, but will take us on a heated musical journey that will leave us soaked in sonic beatitude.

PHILM – Gerry Nestler (vocals, guitars), Pancho Tomaselli (bass) and Dave Lombardo (drums) - will hit the road this fall in support of the album by performing several shows throughout Europe and the U.S. with more dates to be confirmed.

See below for full list of dates confirmed so far.

BASTARD OF THE SKIES & GRIMPEN MIRE: Two New Psalms From Crushing Split Sullying The Airwaves Of Decibel

Today, Decibel Magazine celebrates the soul-crushing split offering from two of the most volatile volume peddlers of the UK's underground doom/sludge/noise community: BASTARD OF THE SKIESand GRIMPEN MIRE.

Released via Manchester-based Future Noise Recordings, the seven-track split offers up new frothy psalms of creeping dread from both acts, all recorded by BASTARD OF THE SKIES guitarist/vocalist Matt Richardson at his own Full Stack Studio and mastered by James Plotkin (OLD, Khanate, Khlyst).

BASTARD OF THE SKIES monopolizes Side A, with four cavernous, bass-heavy odes of gnarly fist-clenching, noise rock making their twenty allotted minutes feel like twenty-years of ugliness, corruption and anger as the unstoppable mega-riffs pile to the sky. Side B is enforced by GRIMPEN MIRE's sonic pollution, and their twenty-minutes are spent with but three tunes, each hurling the listener down into a deeper, darker pit of disease, hopelessness and despair. Champions The Sludgelord, "This is an outstanding release showcasing two of the UK's finest and heaviest bands from the doom/sludge metal scene... a must have release. Spellbinding and creepy as hell." Adds Blog Of Putrefaction, "This split displays some excellent songwriting from two veterans of the UK doom scene, and if syrupy riffage is your thing then this is definitely worth your time, good stuff!" Yell Magazine agrees, "This is dark doom and savage sludge for anyone feeling languid and heavy this summer."

Turn up and feel the rumble of BASTARD OF THE SKIES' "Old Vessels" and GRIMPEN MIRE's "Fragments Of Forgotten Craft," now decimating the Deciblog at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, you can check out BOTS' A-side opener "Yarn," alongside GRIMPEN MIRE's B-side lead-off, "The Hollow Wreck," still wreaking havoc at Cvlt Nation at THIS LOCATION.
The split LP is currently available via Future Noise Recordings in a limited run of 300 copies on black vinyl, each including a download card. Order yours today HERE.

HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SOPHOMORE ALBUM COMING HALLOWEEN

Outasight has hardly been out of mind since the 2011 release of his hit single, “Tonight is the Night.”  For two years, he toured the world in support of the song, which landed him a major record deal, has been certified platinum and was featured in commercials for the Academy Awards, Honda, Pepsi and Pizza Hut.  Not to mention that he performed as a guest on The X Factor and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Now, back home in Yonkers, New York, Outasight is doing things on his own – which is how he wants it.  From his own handcrafted studio, he has been able to reconnect with his soulful roots and create music without interference or distraction.  The result is Chasing a Ghost, a glorious new album that shows an artist coming full circle and perfecting his sound.

Chasing a Ghost highlights Outasight’s remarkable ability to seamlessly combine elements of hip-hop, soul and pop into a sound that’s instantly identifiable.  The album is scheduled for release in October of this year.  And, the first single, “Anchor Down” will hit the airwaves on July 29.
