Jessica 6 Collaborate with Mugler

Jessica 6’s Collaborate with Mugler

Nomi Ruiz Appears In Mugler Menswear Spring/Summer 2012

Video Which Also Features “White Horse”

"The outstanding debut album from this Brooklyn throwback act recalls a time
when the city shone with glitter and cocaine."
– Blackbook

“…a fresh take on 70s disco and filtered house with a dash of funk… elevated by Ruiz's smoky, melancholic voice.”
– Guardian UK

“[See The] Light showcases the talented trio's improved sound, musical variation, and keen ability to stay original and current while calling on the disco gods of the past for influence.”
– PAPER Magazine

“…pop music with a disco feel and a real soulful vibe as well. We love it!”
– PerezHilton

Mugler launched their menswear collection for Spring/Summer 2012 this week. As part of the launch, they released a video “Brothers of Arcadia”, directed by Branislav Jankic, which features Jessica 6 front woman Nomi Ruiz and Jessica 6’s track “White Horse”. The steamy NSFW video has been raising eyebrows across the world. Celebrated Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti handpicked Nomi and Jessica 6. Watch the NSFW director’s cut of the video here and a slightly tamer yet still NSFW version here.

New York City’s Jessica 6 released their debut album, See The Light, June 7 on Peacefrog Records.See The Lightopens with a classic-in-waiting, the behemoth of a single, “White Horse”, that forces you to move like a witch doctor would. “Champagne Bubbles” is the kind of gritty R&B that isn’t afraid to be as angry as it is melancholic, its piano flourishes punctuated with a heavy kick and snare. “Prisoner Of Love,” which bridges electro and freestyle, featuring a soaring vocal melody that finds Nomi and guest vocalist Antony weaving their voices around each other to a stunning effect.

Jessica 6 has been commanding dance floors for years, globetrotting from London to Miami, San Francisco to Santiago, Bergen to Belgrade, seduce the dancing, sweaty masses with an electrifying blend of disco, soul and R&B. In celebration of their debut release, the band hits the road once again with their hypnotic live show, kicking off with an album release show in NYC last night, then hitting Philadelphia before heading West for a run that includes a stop at San Francisco’s Gay Pride stage.

W-H-I-T-E Releases Video For "Fountain."

W-H-I-T-E Fountain from Michael Ray-Von on Vimeo.

"Blisteringly blissful, ethereal, sky-high, cerulean, cathedral-tipped -- keep those adjectives and adverbs rolling, you'll need them as the beat stays constant, and then even more when the bottom drops and it's just your ears and Cory Thomas Hanson's pitch-perfect vocal harmony" - Impose Magazine

"This is one of the prettiest, ethereal, and dream-like songs I've ever heard. I love his soft, serene voice and warm, organic samples and beats, reminiscent of what kept Person Pitch spinning on my record player for weeks on end" - newdust

"I'm constantly searching for music like this. Wide-spectrum'd, both fragile and powerful, a wall-of-sound assault without sounding muddy and overproduced… a change at every turn, layered and benevolent" - I Guess I'm Floating
W-H-I-T-E's (Cory Thomas Hanson) latest single, Fountain draws from the experience of water rushing over ones body, submerging the senses in a bliss of overwhelming intensities. With this single from the latest album, Twin Tigers, W-H-I-T-E aims to convey only the most ecstatic of feelings. Utilizing tom heavy rhythms and lush choir-like vocal melodies to push the sonic sphere into cascades of harmonic content.

W-H-I-T-E has performed with an array of acts on both coasts including Prince Rama, Baths, Lucky Dragons, Ty Segall, Narwalz of Sound, Captain Ahab, Man Forever, Metal Rouge, Nonhorse and GDFX.

Twin Tigers was released on March 16th on Swill Children.

MADBALL Announces New Summer Tour & Festival Dates

New Album ‘Empire’ in Stores Now!

New York City hardcore legends MADBALL are pleased to announce several upcoming headlining summer tour dates and festival shows. The band will kick off the run in St. Louis, MO on August 8th and will tour through the Midwest, ending in Philadelphia, PA on August 14th at “This Is Hardcore” Fest. See below for all current tour dates!

“We're excited to be doing more festivals like this in the states,” states vocalist Freddy Cricien. “I think these kinds of shows are great for the genre/scene. We just came back from Europe from doing a few big festivals and we'll be back there in July for more, before the states tour. Europe has been on to something for years, with regard to having hardcore bands on this kind of platform. Hopefully this trend continues and grows in the states. I am one of the promoters of the BnB bowl in NYC. We've tried to set an example for years now with that event. Hopefully, we can do it "open air" proper style some day! See you all in the Midwest, either at a fest or club show. Come through!”

Thee Oh Sees Add More U.S. Dates, Play 5 North American Festivals / "Castlemania" LP Out Now To Rave Reviews On In The Red Records

"Their output is prolific and their live show combustible... But it's good to hear Dwyer step away from his backing band's big guns, if only for a moment." - Pitchfork

"these 16 basement screams are the B-sides of rock history" - Spin

"Castlemania is the work of a guy who’s earned the right to do what he wants...with a great and hopefully-here-to-stay band to boot. And the good news is we’ll only have to wait a few months to see what he does next." - Paste

"Even after the drawbridge to Castlemania has been raised, its acidic, singsong dementia lingers like an aftertaste." - A.V. Club

"A good band this prolific is a real and immediate pleasure." - Tiny Mix Tapes

"old fans will love it, first timers will trip backwards through the band’s rich, prolific catalog." - Filter

"When Thee Oh Sees hit their mark, you’d be hard-pressed to find a band that makes music quite this catchy and unique." - One Thirty BPM

"Dwyer is a square-jawed, tattooed ambassador for elegant hedonists everywhere. His music is raw, elemental rock, but his personal style is crafty and split-second fast." THE NEW YORKER

"John Dwyer deserves a star on the underground garage-punk walk of fame." STEREOGUM

"In the psych garage world — music with a pop core that moves at a spastic speed with warped melodies —Mr. Dwyer, the front man, is an underground idol." NEW YORK TIMES

"memorable riffs abound, and revving tempos propel the tunes like a car stuck in 5th gear" - Pitchfork

"This is, fundamentally, bold and booming rock music: it hums and spikes and makes itself heard."
Dusted

"Guider invites listeners’ touch with its seductively rounded edges, but sends them away with skinned fingertips." - A.V. Club

"There's no question: Guider, the Chicago group's second 30-minute LP, is an expertly realized slab of effects-driven rock 'n' roll. It's musical devil's food cake, deliciously dense and dark, perfect for doing little jerky Ian Curtis dances around your room" - Tiny Mix Tapes

"Guider is another hugely satisfying sonic transmission from a genuinely exciting group; fingers crossed this one gets the attention it deserves." - The Quietus

"Brilliantly simple and wonderfully executed...Guider is an intriguing, viscerally stirring study in contemporary post-punk that holds attention like a fox in a headlight beam." - Drowned in Sound

"it’s easy to get swallowed up in the minimalist epic." - Time Out Chicago

"You’ll slow down to pick up friends on the way; The Velvet Underground, Suicide and The Jesus & Mary Chain to name a few, but by the end of this 30-minute barrage of tremolos, dark fuzz and stabbing vocal lines this quartet remain the true felons you can’t seem to catch up to." - Aquarium Drunkard

Drawing on a combined reverence for reverb, heavy tremolo, distortion, delay and repetition, Disappears play minimal rock music inspired by everything from Kraut to American gospel to punk. Started as a recording project in 2008, Disappears inevitably left the studio - supporting Wire, Deerhunter, Tortoise, German legends Cluster and beyond.

Initially designed to explore the simplicity of early American music and it's reinterpretation by UK acts of the mid 80's, founding member's Brian Case (The Ponys) and Graeme Gibson (Boas, Fruit Bats) started recording demos in search of something familiar but exciting. Eventually the tapes were passed onto Jonathan van Herik (Boas) and new comer Damon Carruesco, completing the group's line up. Throughout 2008 the band self released a series of 7" singles and a live album, signing to the Kranky imprint in 2009. Their debut album Lux was released in the spring of 2010. Sans a few early champions, Lux was initially met with little fanfare and went largely unnoticed. Dark and hazy, it showed the band experimenting with minimal arrangements married to the attitude of bands like Suicide and The Fall.

A series of US tours followed, the band cris crossing the states playing to small but enthusiastic crowds. Undeterred, Disappears entered the studio a mere month after Lux's release to record their follow up Guider. Propulsive and violent, Guider perfectly represented the state of the band - uncompromising and uninterested in a world deluded with hype and numerical evaluations. Anchored by the 16 minute "Revisiting", Guider showed the band locking in on the minimalism hinted at on earlier releases as well as fully giving into the ideas of repetition and space explored by influences like the Staple Singers and Neu!. A chance meeting with Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth proved not only instrumental in the band supporting Michael Rother on his Hallogallo tour (on which Steve played drums) but also to his eventual joining of the band following Gibson's amicable departure. Bolstered by Shelley's presence as well as the critical acclaim upon Guider's release, Disappears launched a series of successful tours in the US, United Kingdom and Europe.

"They manage to do a solid job of mining the lo-fi aesthetic and mixing it with their own little twists, most notable the unsteady guitar riff playing through the whole track and the half spoken, half sung lyrics found on the tune. That gives this track it’s own personality and we happen to be enjoying what they’re doing with it".
http://poptartssucktoasted.com/?p=406
Pop Tarts Suck Toasted

"Friendo capture so gracefully that hazy, other-worldly quasi-spiritual tone that made me so obsessed with Panda Bear’s Young Prayer at the time, elevated here by the contrast with the sparse rhythm section that reminds me somewhat of Slint in its foreboding guitar tones" - Dont Die Wondering

"Call this lovely slow-burner another fruit fallen from the season of summery Baeleric music, or just call it pretty and supple, that works too. You may also recognize the smoke-covered dude in the photo above as one of the members of Women, one of the best noise and psychedelic rock alchemists on either side of the 49th parallel" - Impose Magazine

"The recording of these songs giving them a timeless-yet-dated feel, where you can't help but feel like you've already fallen in love with these songs and they are coming back into your life at the exact right time. A stunning debut if there ever was one" - Weird Canada

"At times hazy and ethereal... other times recalling lo-fi pop from the '90s... Friendo have created a warm, familiar-yet-fresh recording." -Devin Friesen, Beatroute Magazine

Friendo is a three-piece, guitar-driven band largely inspired by ‘90s experimental rock, ‘70s punk and ‘60s pop. Their songs range anywhere from breezy, effortless jams, to pulse-pounding post-punk gems. The multi-instrumentalist members love to mix harmony with noise, creating their own seasonal landscape.

Michael (Women, Azeda Booth, Monkey) has been drumming since he was a child, playing in bands, and eventually wanted to explore the melodic side of music and songwriting on the guitar. Nicole (Puberty, Hunter-Gatherer, Topless Mongos), an avid music lover and collector, began to teach herself various instruments after being inspired by other musicians in her life. Henry (Beija Flor, Monkey), a polished bassist and guitarist, has taken on the role of drumming for the first time. The group has subsequently swapped roles from their respective instruments, becoming total amateurs creatively tapping into uncharted spaces.

The band chose to self-release Cold Toads on a limited run of unmastered cassettes, providing the perfect format for their intangible sound. Cold Toads is a home-made recording project, using whatever they could get their hands on; tape decks, 4 tracks to cassette, hand held portable recorders and built-in computer mics. The sound that emerges is a soothing lo-fi odyssey that transcends time and will only get better with each listen.

Through the St Ives label, run by the folks at Secretly Canadian, Friendo is releasing 200 limited edition, hand crafted vinyl albums to run alongside the digital itunes release. Cold Toads is also available on cassette.

ZS
http://www.zzzsss.com / http://www.thesocialregistry.com
Zs was founded in 2000 by tenor saxophonist and composer Sam Hillmer. While Zs' music has been variously categorized as no-wave, noise, post-minimalist, drone, and psych, it is primarily concerned with making music that challenges the physical and mental limitations of both performer and listener. Manipulating extended technique, unique instrumental synthesis, and near telepathic communication, Zs aims to create works that envelop the listener and unfold sonically over time, evoking unspoken past, present, and future rites and ritual. Zs has performed in lofts, galleries, basements, rock clubs, and concert halls across North America and Europe with The Locust, Gang Gang Dance, Animal Collective, Battles, The Dirty Projectors, Dan Deacon, Peter Brotzman and Han Bennick, and Louis Andriessen. Zs currently records for The Social Registry record label.

“...equally evocative and off-putting, challenging and intriguing.”
- Joshua Klein, Pitchfork

JACK Quartet
http://www.jackquartet.com
The JACK Quartet electrifies audiences worldwide with "explosive virtuosity" (Boston Globe) and "viscerally exciting performances" (New York Times). David Patrick Stearns (Philadelphia Inquirer) proclaimed their performance as being "among the most stimulating new-music concerts of my experience," and NPR listed their performance as one of "The Best New York Alt-Classical Concerts Of 2010." The Washington Post commented, "The string quartet may be a 250-year-old contraption, but young, brilliant groups like the JACK Quartet are keeping it thrillingly vital."

"Whether a listener absorbs this music or rebels against it is at least partly a matter of how the performers put it across. It would be hard to imagine an ensemble playing it with greater virtuosity than the JACK Quartet, which seemed not merely earnest but also completely comfortable with, and passionate about, the strange sound worlds at hand." - Allan Kozinn, New York Times

Noveller
http://www.sarahlipstate.com
Noveller is the solo project of Brooklyn-based guitarist and filmmaker Sarah Lipstate. Did you catch her live at PS1, or hear the killer set on Soundcheck? How about her contributions to Rhys Chatham's Guitar Army or Glenn Branca's 100-guitar jam-out? Do not miss.

“...simultaneously soothing and mind-wrecking noise, along with a compositional depth that most loud-for-the-hell-of-it guitar droners never reach.” – NY Press

* The night will be rounded out with a stellar DJ / VJ combo. Dutty Artz’ Matt Shadetek brings global beats + bass-packed riddims while Trouble (the duo responsible for the infamous 'You Are Here' Festival) handles visuals. http://mattshadetek.com / http://www.duttyartz.com / http://troublestuff.tumblr.com
