2012 has been another gala year for Kraftwerk, revered musical pioneers and Dusseldorf's Zen masters of electronic minimalism. Kicking off the year with a mind-blowing performance at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Kraftwerk landed in New York in April to perform Kraftwerk–Retrospective 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, a truly auspicious and unique series of concerts that ran April 10 – 17 at New York’s Museum of Modern Art to enormous critical acclaim.
The elaborate staging of the performances combined sound and 3D images to present more than 40 years of musical and technological innovation, with new improvisations and 3D projections. The albums were performed in chronological order: Autobahn (1974), Radio-Activity (1975), Trans Europe Express (1977), The Man-Machine (1978), Computer World (1981), Techno Pop (1986), The Mix (1991), and Tour de France (2003).
Later in July, Kraftwerk performed a special 1-hour set for the No Nukes 2012 festival in Tokyo, sharing the bill with Yellow Magic Orchestra founder Ryuichi Sakamoto.
So it seems fitting that 2012 should end with yet another milestone for a group that has rolled back musical barriers with every forward-thinking phase of their career. Kraftwerk are the first purely electronic recording artist ever to receive a nomination for one of music’s most coveted and prestigious awards, a place in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame.
Having laid the foundations for four decades of computerized pop and dance music, Kraftwerk, led by founder Ralf Hütter, has influenced generations of artists in all genres, mapping musical futures yet to come. From Bowie to Daft Punk, New Order to Depeche Mode, Afrika Bambaataa to Björk, Dr Dre to Jay-Z, Radiohead to LCD Soundsystem and almost everyone in between, the mark of Kraftwerk is seemingly without end.
Kraftwerk’s most recent release was a special limited edition version of the 2009 Digital Masters Boxset The Catalogue released April 10, 2012. Originally released to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their landmark 1974 hit “Autobahn” and the long-awaited digitally remastered versions of their 8 classic albums, the CD Boxset contains 8 remastered CDs in ‘mini-vinyl’ card wallet packaging, plus individual large format booklets. However, this time, the set came packaged in a black box and was made available as an individually numbered, worldwide limited edition of 2,000 copies.

SIMON SPIRE
NEW ZEALAND INDIE POP ARTIST, SIMON SPIRE RELEASESU.S. DEBUT OF FOUR-LETTER WORDS TODAY!
FEATURED ON THE AOL MUSIC LISTENING PARTY
WITH NEW VIDEO FOR “UNCOMFORTABLE”
SPIRE PARTNERS WITH SOCIALLY-CONSCIENCE FASHION BRAND JATALO,
FEATURED BY 1 BAND 1 BRAND
(NEW YORK, NY): Indie pop singer/songwriter Simon Spire hits the U.S. with a new album titled Four-Letter Words out today! Spire has also released a new video for the single, “Uncomfortable,” from the forthcoming release. Originally from New Zealand, Simon Spire’s musical journey brought him to New York where he has lived for the last few years and where he ultimately wrote and recorded the new material. Four-Letter Words was produced by Rich Mercurio and Lee Nadel with mixing by engineer Brian Malouf (All American Rejects, Michael Jackson, David Gray).
Four-Letter Words, the second album from the Kiwi artist, showcases Spire’s talent for energetic, upbeat pop songs while still managing to cover considerable dynamic ground, highlighting a gift for lyrical depth throughout. Spire reaches for a revealing side, saying “the songs are about being radically true to the core of oneself, to the extent that there is constant openness to and inquiry into what’s driving us.”
Listen to the entire album this week on the AOL Music Listening Party: http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/#/15
The album’s single, Uncomfortable, was released in September, followed by a video in early October. The video, which is currently being featured on AOL Music, can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXijs5SIoDA
A three-time award winner in the USA Songwriting Competition, and one of U.S. television network Channel One’s Top 20 Artists of the Year, Spire has also landed on the Top 20 and Top 40 airplay charts in New Zealand, with Four-Letter Words debuting at #6 on the New Zealand independent sales chart. The album has garnered advance praise both in the US and New Zealand.
“An exciting emerging songwriter…heartfelt and wise.”
-PopMatters
“Indie pop perfection…Simon Spire is going to be a star.”
-Performer Magazine
"Gloriously vulnerable and emotive…Four-Letter Words’ sound is very versatile with comparable moments to Owl City, Ryan Adams and Sufjan Stevens, putting it on par with some greats in the alternative music scene."
-Muzic.net.nz
"While I would normally highlight my favorite lyrics, I'll refrain this time, because I'd be writing them all out. Plus, it's the music and Simon's voice that sells this so well."
-Relate Magazine
"Spire is a musically diverse talent with a Midas touch for great hooks."
-M2 Magazine
Spire has also recently teamed with the fashion brand, Jatalo. Jatalo is a socially-conscience brand that creates culturally inspired backpacks, to support the education of underprivileged children around the world. Simons songs traverse the ground between upbeat indie pop, and singer-songwriter introspection, making him a perfect fit for the international brand. Also currently pursuing graduate studies at Columbia University, Simon values the importance of education and is proud to be part of the organization stating, “I'm thrilled to be involved with Jatalo as they work to support education for children in need, and provide new opportunities for learning." Simon’s partnership with Jatalo has also grabbed the attention of the 1 Band 1 Brand organization, who is promoting the pair this week.
Learn more about Simon Spire and the Jatalo mission here: http://www.1band1brand.com/index.php
Simon Spire’s love for music began at a young age, but it wasn’t until he heard Nirvana for the first time at the age of 13, that he discovered his true passion for the guitar. Later, he discovered artists like Neil Diamond and Leonard Cohen, who sparked an interest in developing his talent for songwriting. His interest in understanding the influences that help shape our world drew him to a degree in economics and finance at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, all the while developing his abilities as a musician. He ultimately decided to pursue a career in his first love, relocating to the U.S. and releasing his debut album, All or Nothing, in 2008. With Four-Letter Words set for an October release in the U.S., Simon continues his love of learning, currently pursuing graduate studies at Columbia University.

Black Moth Super Rainbow
The new Black Moth Super Rainbow record, Cobra Juicy. It's out October 23rd on their new label, Rad Cult, which will be distributed through the French Kiss Label Group. Perhaps you've seen some of the hullabaloo regarding his super successful Kickstarter campaign (pitched by Eric Wareheim of Tim & Eric; raised over $125,000 in 30 days!), his new record being available in grinning citrus mask-form (see image below) with a USB tooth, the singles "Gangs in the Garden" and "Windshield Smasher," or the bizarro video for the latter. I'd love for you to check out the new record and consider BMSR for coverage.

Legendary Japanese trio Boris announce a limited edition split 7" with recent tour mates Asobi Seksu available as a Record Store Day exclusive release on Black Friday, November 23, 2012. Additionally, Boris post new headlining tour dates in the UK and EU, as well as appearances at All Tomorrow's Parties in the UK and State-X New Forms Festival in Holland. See dates below. The forthcoming split single features each band covering a song by the other. Asobi Seksu takes on Boris' majestic "Farewell" off of their Pink album, while Boris reworks "New Years" from Asobi Seksu's Citrus album here as "Neu Years", a churning dream pop gem. The vinyl edition includes a download card with 4 additional classic songs from both bands. Iconoclast trio Boris are widely known for their ability to breach styles and stretch sonic boundaries of all that is heavy, psychedelic, droning and downright cathartic. Their last three albums -- Attention Please, Heavy Rocks and New Album, all released in 2011 via Sargent House -- are perfect testament to the band's vast abilities. Over the span of two decades, the trio, bassist/vocalist Takeshi, guitarist/vocalist Wata and drummer/vocalist Atsuo has issued nearly 20 studio albums, as well as numerous collaborative albums -- including projects with Merzbow, Sunn0))), Ian Astbury and Michio Kurihara of Ghost (who also currently tours with the band as second guitarist) -- EPs and singles on various labels throughout the world. American dream pop band Asobi Seksu is widely known for their shoegaze influenced effect-laden sound. Since their beginning in 2001, the band led by vocalist/keyboardist Yuki Chikudate and guitarist/vocalist James Hanna has released four albums and various singles. Their most recent album, Fluorescence (Polyvinyl) hit shelves on Valentine's Day 2011 to much critical acclaim. Asobi Seksu toured supporting Boris in the fall of that year, cementing the friendship between the two bands leading up to this endeavor of mutual admiration covering each others' songs.
